Has anyone heard the FDOT in SE Florida in the digital talkgroups?
I`m talking about the commercial vehicle enforcement units,the patrol cars with really dark tinted windows.The one`s that you see pulling over big trucks all the time.I see them pretty active down here in Homestead,yet,not a peep from them on the radio.

If I have been observing and listening correctly, the DOT Commercial Vehicle Enorcement teams work on the FHP frequencies.
They identify with D/Delta and a 3 number ID.

So the talkgroups listed for Miami are not really active,instead,they operate in the FHP frequencies as Delta units?Are they on dispatch channels or a particular channel such as "SPECIAL"?

As far as I can surmise, the DOT/CMV operate in their respective patrol zones ON the active FHP frequencies.
(Most likely the DOT work under the same area assignments as the FHP).
Although, I have VERY RARELY heard them operate after 5 pm.

I believe that if you live in Homestead, the DOT will be operating on the South (Dispatch) Talkgroup 63920 as a "Delta" unit.
I have heard Delta units on ALL FHP "main" talkgroups from Voluisa County down to Key West.

The "specialty" talkgroup seems to be for detail assignments.

I believe that somewhere in this forum group there is an FHP trooper.
I hope that he will contribute to this thread.

Dic;

Thanks for the info.Now that you mentioned what the Delta identifier is for,I`ve also heard of "Echo",which I`m figuring is for a higher level supervisor in Troop E.`Be nice to talk to the Trooper though,I have soooo many questions.:)

G.A.

I believe that "Echo" refers to those green and silver pickups and cars which say something about the "Enviornment" on the side.
I am NOT sure what they are. Maybe they are the Fish and Game Commission vehicles. I never really notice them, I am too busy looking out for the FHP Z28.

It seems to me that the lower the number in FHP identifiers the higher up the trooper is.
I believe that the 300 series of FHP are Sergeants, 200 are Lieutenants and the 100 series are Captains.

Again, I am not sure about ANY of this, they are just my observations over years of listening.

I am from the Northeast (Massachusetts) where there are literally VOLUMES of State Police information available, even down to the exact mile markers of patrol zones and the radio identifiers of almost all State Police employees.

With such a large state and such heavy duty traffic enforcement, I have NO idea why there is so LITTLE info on Florida Law Enforcement.

You must be referring to the Scanner Master book on the Commonwealth of Massachusetts? For some reason the Mass. State Police and other government agencies cooperate very heavily with Scanner Master making that book extremely accurate and completely up-to-date. However, this is not the case with other states.

I have noticed the same exact thing. Florida tends to be very reserved about discussing these things not only at the state level, but all the way down to the local level. Why this is really puzzles me, maybe they fear that criminals will take advantage of such information for their own gain? However, I feel it's some more deep rooted than that.

With all the (very expensive) encrypted communications, lousy salaries for the police, scanner (prevention) laws and silence from law enforcement you would think something important was going on down here.

Dic;

Again thanks for the info.Nice to exchange notes with someone "in the know".I mostly listen to FHP Troop E Central/South.Also love to listen to the airplane when they have speed enforcement.There are other unidentified talkgroups I`ve gathered throughout my listening that I would like to post here later to see if you know who they might be,I`ve ran them against the lists posted here in this website but don`t see them.For example 24179,which from the listening I`ve done,appears to be for FHP Lakeworth,and so on.

So it is Possible to monintor the FHP in Flordia on the Statewide Digital Trunking network??

I have the 785 with the digital card and was told that you could not monintor the FHP beacuse it was all encrypted.

Is it only select talk groupd that are encrypted? Or is the whole system encrypted?

:confused:

Yes,it is still possible to monitor FHP,at least in SE Florida.If I`m not mistaken,from Palm Beach on down to the Keys.

Other parts of the state are moving to the new controversial ($) system which will render our new toys deaf to FHP.

Certain talkgroups for FHP are encrypted full time,but there`s the normal day to day enforcement operations still in the clear.

You can get the frequencies and talkgroups of this site.

I just got a new Radio Shack Pro-96... its been a long time since I heard any FHP and now I can finally hear them. I understand they are switching to the newer M/A Com system. Does anyone know, or have you heard if my new Pro-96 will listen to the newer system...?? I hope I didn't get it for it to be obsolete in a year! :roll:

Once the State of Florida switches to the new system, you won't be able to monitor them anymore, not with any scanner made. SE Florida, including Dade and Broward Counties, are still using the Motorola system, for the time being.
