• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Although I don't know the legal ramifications of operating on citizens band, the simplest form of digital would be morse code.

It is interesting that digital came before analog, it the form of morse code.

I don't see a problem with digital on 11m. An FT8 'channel' only takes up around 2.5 kHz.. So for instance, you can squeeze a lot of 50 Hz wide FT8 signals into one CB channel. Designate one of the 40 as a digital channel and away you go. Perhaps the FCC can be petitioned to allow it. Just need someone to get the ball rolling.

There seems to be a fair bit of digital activity on or near 11 meters. Especially in Europe.

Go to this site: Display Reception Reports Fill in the boxes along the top (as shown below):

On [11m] show [signals] [sent/received by] [anyone] using [all modes] in the last [24 hours] ... click [Go]

You'll see quite a few stations spotted.. If you hover the pointer over any of the pins or if you left click on a pin, you'll see information on that station.. You'll see that in Europe they use 27.245 MHz. They're running JS8 there (It's a subset of FT8 which allows for keyboard to keyboard chatting).

In North America they're using FT8 up in the 'freeband' region.. (27.600 to 27.900). don't know anything else about it. No idea how it's organized. I doubt if the North American activity is legal.

Looks like you had a seizure with your hands resting on the keyboard or a dog just licked your junk.

For digital voice, both NXDN9600 or TPL eDMR have demonstrated usability in Part 90 low band. Just a starting point.

Exactly! Get the amateur license.
And listen to a bunch of old fat guys complaining about a former President , muffled audio because they are masked behind the mic , and discuss nothing radio related, but spend hours talking about where they are gonna meet up for their food intake and what they are gonna eat?
Why would you want to listen to that all the time.

Do you prefer people with an IQ about equivalent to the channel number their on and who have less than zero technical knowledge but swear by the wild wives tales that have been handed down amongst the so called CB Gurus as facts? That's amusing for a few minutes, kind of like listening to Howard Stern, however Howard actually has a brain. Unlike most of the Scarecrows on CB who might be able to make something rhyme but they can hardly tie their own shoes.

I can't tell you how many hammie conversations I've listened to of a highly technical nature where at some point the person who invented or has the patent on the thing which their discussing shows up out of nowhere and throws in his or her comments. Or the countless broadcast engineers for your local FM and TV stations you will run into on the ham bands and so on. Yea there are some hams that only talk about their ailments or feeding time but its not the norm around here.

It would be nice if it was as you describe it in these parts. Unfortunately it is not. It has come down to using Part95 to get away from the Hammies

Ahem. Former President? :ROFLMAO:
And don’t forget talking for hours on end about their rig, their setup, their antenna, what they have/what they wanna get, whether or not it rained “over there” which is usually about 15 miles away from them.

But I love it. It’s better than most of the crap on CB (which I also love!)

CB here is dead as well with the exception of a few guys who play on 13 side band on Sunday evenings reliving the 70's ( who are also hams)

P25 CB? The cost would be insane sickening!

Realistically, a NFM band for personal use like FRS but specifically for digital use like DMR would be nice. Then again, get a group of friends together and buy a license and own your own local digital system - probably more reasonable than FCC ever giving more free spectrum to the average citizen.

Can you see the mud ducks aiming Gizmotchy's with echo boxes at Mexico on Digital?
