I live near LAX airport (Inglewood) in California. I am a close to but a long stone's throw from the W6TRW 145.320 repeater on the roof of Building E2 One Space Park (formerly TRW).

I monitor several local repeater frequencies on both 2 meter and 70cm.

I have a frequency of 448.950 programmed into my vintage Bearcat 210XL, located at my desk where the computer is. I also have a Uniden/Bearcat BCD996P2 in my bedroom.

I don't remember how or why I programmed this particular frequency is there and saved.

There is a repeater on this frequency and it identifies as belonging too KE6YEP. I looked up the call and it belongs to a Marcelino H Tiangco located in West Covina, California. It may be possible but I doubt the repeater is located at this person's address. The furthest I seem to be able to hear any repeaters with my simple antenna is Corona and that is a bit noisy.

Usually in the late evenings I have heard conversations on this repeater in mixed Spanish/English.

I suppose if it was a bootleg repeater there would be no automated recorded voice/morse code call sign ID?

I cannot find any reference online to this repeater, frequency etc.

Thanks for your input.

It appears the KE6YEP repeater is private or not coordinated so its location is not advertised unless the owner posts its location. It could be anywhere like one of the tall So Cal mountain tops or at his home or anywhere. Its not common to have an amateur repeater at the owners house unless its at a good high location. I have coordinated but private repeaters where the locations are not public.

I'm sorry, I composed this when I was more tired than I usually am.... :)

It obviously is within in the 70cm band and below 450Mhz. I am sorry for my gross mistake.

I've seen listings of many repeaters designated on repeaterbook.com as private. I thought it a bit odd there was no references anywhere. So I learned something new, thanks.

I know what it is. OP probably made a typo and was supposed to be 470 MHz and has never heard of images that old scanners like that were notorious for receiving.
I my intention was, the repeater is within the 70cm band (below 450Mhz) but not listed on repeaterbook.com.

For reference the 70cm frequencies is part of the Bearcat 210XL's spec.

Thanks for that information :)

There are MANY repeaters that are not listed in repeaterbook. It's no different than any other database, including RR. It is only as good as the information that is submitted. I could put up a repeater today and repeaterbook would never know about it.

Seems there are plenty of dead repeater listings there as well.

Repeaterbook lists 14 repeaters in my county. Here's the status of them:
  1. On the air, but incorrect callsign and mode shows "Fusion WIRES-X" when the repeater is configured for analog only.
  2. Correct.
  3. Off the air.
  4. Correct.
  5. Correct.
  6. Off the air.
  7. Never was on the air.
  8. Off the air.
  9. Off the air.
  10. Off the air.
  11. Correct.
  12. Unknown. If on the air, it's very low profile.
  13. Never was on the air.
  14. Off the air.
4 out of 14 are on the air and listed correctly. 28.6%. Hopefully, that's not a typical Repeaterbook accuracy rate.

I know of one more repeater in the county that isn't listed but is on the air.

My county is about the same.
21 repeaters listed.
12 have a red x. Most of those haven't been on the air for over 10 years.
9 have a green +. 5 of those are actually on the air, 3 haven't been on the air for several years, one hasn't existed for about 10 years.

About 10 years ago I tried to get the info corrected but they rejected anything from me because I'm not a repeater owner or operator.

Repeaterbook seem to only be accurate in a few states or regions where the frequency coordinators use it as their official database.

I think the OP's question is why are they hearing an output above 445. It's not uncommon for repeater pairs to be flipped in metro areas. Here in Detroit we have a few.

Similar to RR - user supported, if no one reports/shares it may/may not get changed.
Same with RR - submit it, and the DB Editors may/may not change it. -

Generally I've had no problems with RepeaterBook submissions and/or suggesting edits for Repeaters
