Following LMRN encrypted talkgroups

I have noticed the my SDS200 tends not to lock fully on the TG (current FW). It appears to be related to the ENC mute function in the scanners. The scanner seems to want to return to the CC if an ENC transmission is received. I am digging a bit more into this. Has anyone else noticed similar things on their units? The scanner properly followed(s) the MTO TG when active.

FYI, I am logging site activity using DSD and observing the scanner. Even when I have it locked on the TG often it will flash the Voice freq and immediately return to the CC even the the TG is still active.

Yes, standard functionality of the Uniden X36/SDS series once they encounter encrypted comms is to jump back to the control channel. I don’t believe there’s any way to turn it off.

For DSD there is a setting called “Encrypted talkgroup following” which will return as well when encryption is found. You can have limited or full following.

It would be super nice if Uniden would enable a encrypted mute bypass, or make it a option for the system being monitored.

I am going to have to redo my DSD settings I have somehow messed up the dedicated computer to the point it doesn't recognize the SDR or any of the files I place in DSD. I may get ambitious and make a small document on setting up DSD to work with LMRN.

Isn't it just tune DSD to the control channel.. set it to P25/X2, set for voice follow and if you feel like following encrypted groups (just to get the key id)?

LOL yes pretty basic setup. I just need to fix all the messed up files and remove a lot of garbage programs from the dedicated computer. Maybe a nice project for later in the week, then reload the OS and DSD replace the stock files and reset the P25 follow.

BTW, I think installing a pile of decoder plugins is what messed everything up. Oh well, not the end of the world . Appreciate the reply.

I've done that once. Wasn't working correctly so said F it. Format. Install windows and just DSD+ and has been fine for the past 4 years now. Program hasn't crashed or locked up since.

I've had enc follow on for the Sarnia site for the past few weeks and seems the hospital groups have a different key then the normal EMS groups. I don't see any of the ER groups "in use" so must be a behind the scenes thing.

I haven't observed that (different key) and I see the ER channels being used off the Byron site. I know right before City 1 switched over the units were relaying their patch info thru CACC, so maybe a little work still being done at the hospital stations (not to mention they have to have someone physically go to each site and set the radio to the proper system and group).

I have not seen any 24xxx TGs off the Byron site. I do see the East, West, City etc... as well as the ER TG active.

I stand corrected on the ERxx talkgroups, they are indeed using a different key. Strange that DSD+ shows that it's an encrypted patch call, but it doesn't seem to show the patch being setup (which groups are involved etc). I see that on other systems I monitor...

I have seen what I am thinking are affiliations (with 0 hits) the past 2 weeks on Hamilton for the following 24xxx TG's.

24108, 24113, 24114, 24117, 24118, 24121, 24124, 24125, 24127, 24129, 24238, 24243 & 24306

Edit: And as a side note same thing with a bunch of TG's in the 19xxx and 20xxx ranges with most of then with 0 hits.
