Next year I will have the misfortune of spending a month or so at Fort Irwin for NTC. I plan to bring a BC125AT and a couple hundred dollars worth of AAA batteries as my only other sources of entertainment will be counting sand, catching scorpions, watching sunsets/sunrises, and throwing rocks at coyotes. What VHF frequencies should I monitor from my location besides CHP on 44.7, 42.42, 42.56, 42.72? What antenna is recommended?

Is it reasonable to expect that any of the San Bernardino County Fire VHF frequencies can be heard from Fort Irwin? If so, which ones?

Try plugging in the San Bernardino VHF fire frequencies, depending on where you are on the base you may pick them up.
Also use search mode, you might find something new...
