Does it give any error messages or other indications at all?

Are you using an old shortcut that doesn't point to the most recent install?

Have you tried going into the FreeScan folder and right click and OPEN on the application?

Do you have .net framework 2.0 or higher installed? (preferably version 3.5 as of now)

Rich,

We're talking about a 30 day difference in time so I believe all the computer settings are fine. When I click on the program from the start menu if you have something like internet explorer open you see the background flash as if it is about to open but doesn't. When I go to the program folder thru start>all programs> the folder and right click it tells me folder is empty, I really don't feel like doing a restore on my comp just to get it to work. although freescan is awesome enough I cant say I didn't consider it.

What operating system do you have?

If it's Windows 8, I can't offer any additional advice. I don't (and won't) have that operating system.

I have eleven computers here with Win7, WinXP, and Win98.
With any of those, I may be able to help you.

The fact that it says the program folder is empty, sounds like it really didn't install in that folder, if at all.

If you right click on the shortcut you use to try starting FreeScan, and select PROPERTIES, it should tell you which folder it's expecting to see the application in.
If the FreeScan application doesn't reside in that folder, it will not run.

found it and some past up/downloads I guess but did nothing still

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit on a few of my machines.
FreeScan runs just fine on all of them.

The following image shows what you should see in the FreeScan folder.
" C:\Program Files (x86)\FreeSCAN " on my system. Probably the same on yours.

If you see the same files on yours, RIGHT CLICK on the FreeScan application and select run as ADMINISTRATOR.
You should see some result, even if it's just an error message.

If you don't see the same files on your system then the install did not complete properly.

did what u suggested and still nothing. its not the end of the world, just liked it a lot.i also have arc xt demo version and was passed along an ad for scancat lite or something like that. essentially all these programs do the same job right? it's just which the user is more comfortable with?

See if you can uninstal it from the windoze system. Then reinstal it but do NOT put into the C:\Program Files (x86) folder. Put it in a seperate folder such as C:\FreeSCAN.

I have solved a lot of problems by avoiding instals in " C:\Program Files (x86).

Can you do a Windows system restore to the date before you got rid of the program?

Thanks to all. Tried a restore which said I had no previous restore points...weird and finally broke down and did a recovery which maybe I needed anyway since I bought the thing. Everything now is copastetic. I did have trial versions of other things like ARC which I had in the past before with no complaints but really just didn't feel like paying for again.

No, what I meant was I've had free scan before but also had paid for ARC software before and didn't want to have to again if I couldn't get freescan to work.
