I previously set up an 898t scanner with no problems, but the 996XT is a new world for me. I used Freescan (a great product) to access RadioReference where I downloaded file for my country and I uploaded it with no changes. That went super easy. However, I have no sound. I also noticed that the only items that appear to be scanning are the ones that had the EDW prefix in Freescan. The ones with GRP do not appear. Also, it appears that only one channel for each EDW is being scanned.

The entire Freescan process worked beautifully, but it's my ignorance of digital terminology and trunk scanners that are the problems. Any tips on how to make this work will be appreciated. I think I'm really close. I've made no adjustments of any kind on the 996XT; all I've done is upload from Freescan. Thanks for any help.

While there are some general things folks can suggest (things like wrong system type, group key issues, etc.) we're really shooting in the dark until we see the system(s) you are trying to program, and the file you are using. What is EDW (EDACS Wide)?

Start by going up to the database link (blue toolbar top left under the site title) and supply the URL(s) of these systems. That tells us what you are trying to use.

We're also going to need to see your .996 file to see what you've done. I don't believe the forums will allow you to post the file in its native format, so you'd need to zip (compress) the file using one of the popular modules (WinRAR, WinZip, 7-Zip, etc.) and attach it to the message. That way other FS users can look at it and make suggestions.

I would also start by reading up in our DMA FAQ paying attention to the first 4 sections. After that, there is a 996XT Easier to read manual linked at the bottom...

THANKS for the help in gathering data. That was a big help. This forced me to revisit the file I downloaded... and I apparently downloaded a file that seemed correct but was the wrong one. The Radioreference website appears simple, but there were really two different files. When I downloaded the second file, Freescan did what I had hoped.. uploaded to my scanner and everything WORKS!

So, bottom line for me, a newbie in trunk systems, Freescan and Radioreference work beautifully with just a few button clicks... once you download the right file... :) my system is now functioning properly.
thanks for the advice, as that got me pointed properly.

Just a follow up... Once I found the right file from RadioReference to import, everything went perfectly. I am thoroughly pleased with Freescan software... I didn't need to understand anything and yet everything is now working perfectly. I am just super pleased...
