I've been doing some frequency logging to find out exactly which channels I have in my 796D are active and when. The problem is that none of the logging programs I've found so far capture my current alpha tags along with the freq. That simply leaves me with lists of freqs but forces me to cross reference to a scanner dump or other list. Is there a program out there that will capture my tags, freqs, and give me the number of hits? Thx. -Rod-

Surely you jest; Scan Control, Radio Manager 2004, ARC250 and probably others I'm not thinking of have this ability. Be more specific about what software you're using, and I'm sure there are folks that can help. 73s Mike

[Edit] Have you dumped your 796's contents into whatever software you're using's bank editor? I'm pretty sure they will all capture your alpha tags in the scanner along with all the other information - I know Scan Control and RM2004 will - I'm sure ARC250 can, too

I have all of those. None do what I want them to.
Dumping my scanner banks into ARC250's database isn't the issue. Sure, the tags show up. But what I want is a log of hits WITH those tags attached. All the logging programs (as above) record the freq and time, some the number of hits as well. They do not bring in the tag along with the hit. In short...

Having a db full of freqs and tags and having a log full of freqs and hits but no tags, is essentially useless since the data from the two is separate. Thx. -Rod-

That should not happen, at least if I understand you correctly. The log should show the tag along with everything else. Time for a question to be put on the appropriate Yahoo group (yes, there is a group for ARC250 users). What you said about 'all logging programs' is simply untrue. Scan Control will definitely do this, as well as Radio Manager 2004. I'm betting there's a setting somewhere that needs some attention.
No doubt Gommert and others can point you in the right direction 73s Mike

[Edit] Here's the ARC250 Yahoo group...

Nope. Been thru it all. Tags will come in - minus the hit data. It only shows the total number of hits for ALL freqs on the control screen but doesn't break them down onto the individual freqs. And even then the tags are only hit and miss. "Air Hail and K9" comes through just fine for instance. On the otherhand my "LAPD Gold" (and most of the rest) simply comes through as "Ch Tag #xxx". I don't have the SW on THIS computer (I'm in the front room ATM) but if I recall the version of ScanControl in question is 4.2.1. This is the most current? I dloaded my scanner into the SW's DB so it does have access to what it needs...

I'd just as soon not join yet another group. I'm in dozens of various flavors and each new one brings me more problems. Thx :) -Rod-

That's an obvious one - if all the tag comes through as 'Ch tag #zxxx' then clearly the download into the banks editor didn't work. You should investigate that side of the issue. I'm betting that once you got all the banks downloaded, you forgot to save the data away - I sincerely doubt all the users out there would have left something like that unreported. It's also entirely possible there's a setting somewhere that needs updating. Scan Control, for example, will not create a log unless you tell it to do so - and you have the option of saving selected hits to another bank in software, or saving it to a CSV file. That's done in the 'Program Options' screen, or in the control module, there are 2 checkboxes you can use to activate the option. In either case, the tag is saved on the same line along with the frequency, PL (if supported), time spent on the channel and so on.

Since I don't use Butel s/w or logging programs of any kind, I don't know, but:

Import the log into an Access (or program of your choice) database table. Import the text tags and corresponding frequencies into another table. Have the database spit out a list of hits with the proper text tags. (It's a trivial SQL statement.)

Then pound on the s/w authors to change the logging software.

Sorry, the scanner dump brings in all the alpha tags, no problems. What I see on the DB side of the SW and the logging side are simply two different things. The data was saved on exit, but as important, it simply wasn't there on the log side after the dump nor on a restart of the SW. All program options regarding logging, hits and tags are checked.
