I just switched from Philly to a DMR system and all of the TGID activity on the Scanner screen was from the Philly P1 system that I switched from.

Recording sent.

Force stopped app, cleared cache, restarted app and started listening to a hospital DMR system. After a while, it crashed.

Recording sent.

Hi rgchristy,

What are the specifications of the Android device on which you are running Pocket25?
What other apps are you using? How many other apps are running in the back round ?
I posted my Android device specifications back in post #34.

Looking at the specifications of the average Android device that will no doubt be multitasking
one can understand why a crash may occur. Take a look at the minimum device requirements
to run various digital signal decoder programs.

I utilize resource monitor on my PC so I can see the CPU usage.
Unitrunker 2: CPU is 2. Cooling fan is off.
DSD Plus/FMP24: CPU is 10. Cooling fan is running.

At this point I think we are pushing the average Android devices beyond their design limits, with
only the most current devices and future ones, being capable to handling our ever increasing
demands on them.

Just keep in mind a crash may be caused by a weak Android device and not caused by the
Pocket25 app.

Cheers.

I went to bed last night thinking about this and wanted to try it. Has anyone got this to work on an Android emulator within windows? I managed to get Pocket25 installed on Bluestacks, LDPlayer and Memu. Everything seems to work with importing systems. However, I can't get the emulators to recognize the dongles. I even did zadig from within the emulators. Has anyone else tried this?

My guess is that maybe android emulators just can't detect USB devices on the system or have no permission to do so.

I have been running +14, quick scan is working good for P25 it will work all day long, the only problem is the audio is not smooth. It keeps missing bits and pieces of the conversation. When I run site scan it takes awhile to find a active frequency, when it does it will work for awhile and jump to a backup frequency and hang there for 3 to 5 minutes and go to the next frequency and so on, same problem. It won't stay locked on a active frequency. Audio has the same problem as quick scan. This is P25 system not DMR in Detroit, it did the same thing in northern Michigan to.

This may be one of those " a little bit of knowledge can be dangerous" questions, so you may collectively smack me on the back of the head if necessary...

Here goes:

I am currently running a RTL-SDR v3 dongle. The advertised bandwidth is 2.4 MHz stable. Two of the P25 systems that I'm having trouble with have bandwidths of 3.525 MHz.

If I remember correctly, Sarah said that she is using an Airspy Mini, which has a bandwidth from 4.8 to 6.0 MHz. The Airspy R2, I believe goes up 10 MHz.

Also, I believe that they both have a 12-bit ADC and the v3 has 8-bit.

My v3 is now 10 years old and that either Airspy would work well for me.

The mini seems well-suited for this application.

If it matters, I have no interest in HF or transmitting.

I have to look at the differences between the two Airspy units.

I don't know enough about the SDRPlay RSP1B to ask any questions.

I don't have a problem replacing a 10 year old SDR or using it for something else.

Any thoughts?

I'm using an RTL-SDR v3 and v4, they both do well.
The airspy is not supported, though I was trying to get it working with the HackRF and other boards right now the RTL is the only solid supported device.

I tried it with my Airspy Mini last week. It works great with DSD-FME, SDR++, etc. After researching and reading through the posts, and not finding anything definitive about the Mini, I ordered a V4 RTL-SDR Blog dongle. Already have the OTG cable, and will be using them with an S21 Samsung.

Thanks for the hard work, Sarah! Very interested in using it on my trips out of town.

How did Pocket25 work with the Airspy Mini?

I'm not sure that I understood from your message.

Thanks.

It doesn't, it never has. It only works with the RTL SDR. I've worked on trying to get the hackrf functional but that hasn't gone as well.

Thanks Sarah,

I couldn't tell from his message whether it worked or not.

Hi all,

Are any of you folks out there using this RTL-SDR device along with an Android smart phone and Pocket25? Just asking for a friend.

Cheers
No, but unless they already own one, I would steer clear of the blue ones, based on comments/reviews.
