Fellow scanners. I was just wondering if the following is true or not. Lets say that the example fire department listed below has the following frequencies assigned to them by the FCC.

Fire Department XYZ

Assigned Frequencies

46.100
46.200
46.300
46.400

Now is it true or not that Fire Department XYZ can only transmit on the frequencies assigned to them by the FCC shown above for example, or could they also transmit on other frequencies in the 46 MHZ Band on frequencies that are not assigned to them by the FCC.

Please let me know what you think.

What I'am basically asking is if any callsign is assigned frequencies to them by the FCC can they also talk on other frequencies that are not assigned to them by the FCC.

Please throw in your input.

The call sign in for the license and applies to the frequencies on the license.

They may transmit on other frequencies ONLY if they have authorisation under another license.

Let's say Fire Department ABC is a neighboring department to FD XYZ. ABC operates their fireground on 46.500 and is licensed for a total of 50 moblies. As long as XYZ's mobiles count towards the 50 ABC is licensed for...XYZ can operate on ABC's fireground for mutual aid purposes.

There are squads that operate on my squad's radio channels and vice versa...

Thank you

Thank you both for your responses to my question. I was just curious as to how it all worked in regards to frequency assignments and usage.

Thanks much.

Not by looking at the license. Typically there are written mutual aid agreements which allow a department to operate on another department's system. Sometimes these may be informal agreements, although typically nowadays things are in writing.
