Already ordered the RTL-SDR. Will learn from this before deciding if I want to go bigger.

Great strategy. More expensive receivers perform better but the principles are the same. Its like learning guitar on a $100 Squier before buying a $3000 Martin.

SDR# is free, download that and start lurking in the SDR forum.
