FORT MORGAN – A man wanted for allegedly threatening his girlfriend with a knife was arrested Sunday morning after leading police on a 30-minute chase.
Fort Morgan Police say 19-year-old Adam Jaurigui of Fort Morgan was arrested on felony charges of assault on peace officers, vehicular eluding, DUI and driving under revocation.
Authorities say it is likely he will face menacing with a weapon and domestic violence charges for an alleged incident on Saturday evening.
Police say Jaurigui led them on a chase, beginning at Wiggins in western Morgan County and ending in southeastern Weld County when Jaurigui rammed three patrol cars.
Deputies from Morgan and Weld County as well as Colorado State troopers were involved in the chase.
The chase began about an hour after Fort Morgan Police began looking for Jaurigui.
Morgan County Sheriff's Deputy Ted Thyne spotted Jaurigui's Dodge Neon getting onto I-76 at exit 65 at Wiggins, and he began to pursue Jaurigui.
Jaurigui, who was the only occupant in the Neon, began to elude authorities, traveling westbound on I-76 at speeds in excess of 100 mph, according to authorities.
Police say Jaurigui exited I-76 at Weld County 49, also known as Kersey Road, and headed north.
Weld County Sheriff's deputies and Colorado State Patrol attempted to use stop-sticks three different times on Jaurigui's Neon, flattening three out of four tires.
Troopers say they used a pursuit intervention technique to try and stop the Neon, but after it spun around, Jaurigui headed back southbound, hitting Thyne's car, a Weld County Sheriff's car and a State Patrol car.
Jaurigui's Neon went south for a short distance before coming to a stop and Jaurigui was taken into custody without incident, according to police.
Authorities say three patrol cars were damaged, but no one was injured in the chase.
Police say they found the knife which they believe was involved in the incident in Fort Morgan, along with a small amount of marijuana in the Neon.
Jaurigui has prior arrests for assault, DUI, violation of a restraining order and domestic violence.
