I can finally put it to rest. I found out that the call sign was WPNX392 and it is Expired. I guess it was there first 800mhz system in Ft. Wayne. That would explain why it is not on the database anymore.

Funny thing is, the City of Fort Wayne had applied for that set of freq's not long (around a year and a half) after the city and county jointly purchased the digital 800mhz system they currently use. There was a mod here (thunderbolt I think) who mentioned that there was some internal strife between the city and county over the sytem and that was the reasoning behind it. I had closely watched that system as well and never heard a control ch. active. Being that it is gone now is evidence enough that they must have settled their differences. I was completely taken back when I learned that the FCC granted the city those freqs as if I remember right, they mentioned that the system cost the city and county both around 28 million. It seemed senseless to put another system on line because they cant get along. Also, letting it expire may have something to do with talk of combining both city and county governments as one entity, or at least some, including the 911 call center.

They wonder why the stat is broke. One of the biggest cities in the state just wasted 28 million on a system that they let go down the drain. Isn't Indiana great!!!!!! I'm just glad I finally figured out why there wasn't anything on that system. Since then I have cleaned up my digital and I'm much happier now.

Well, actually, what I meant was that they (city and county) spent the 28 million on the system that they currently use. So they really didnt "lose" anything there (at least not yet). However, I have never applied for a grant with the FCC (for the freq's now gone from the DB for Ft Wayne city) and wouldnt know what that type of request would cost. That money they are surely out of though....

Some people just cant play nice with others huh?

Also, I wanted to clarify one other thing, when I mentioned the combining of offices, I got that from the local news here (if you can beleive anything there). Specifically, local leaders want to make the city and counties 911 call center a "County" office, and eliminate the additional one the city operates for its territory.

It is just a shame they let the frequency's go to waste. It's too bad they just couldn't transfer those frequency to a county that may need them. A county may not be able to afford them. I'm sure Allen County & Ft. Wayne City wouldn't do something like that. I guess I don't understand the whole thing. I just enjoy the scanner hobbie. As long as I can listen to most of counties around me I'm happy.
