Had some fun decoding RADEV1, a mode of a few that FreeDV has built in. I tuned to 14.236MHz and received this digital voice of hams operating.

Antenna: K180-WLA
Radio: ATS Mini v3
Software: FreeDV
Mode: RADEV1
I use a usb audio capture device to interface the radio to the laptop.

That may prove interesting on HF. I use a few data modes and depending on the band, get some good results.

List of my thoughts:
It is not resilient to interference. I heard a sonder sweep by then the decoding glitched for a second. Sideband splatter is even worse if it's too close. HF fading also will interrupt decodes and it often has. Even if you're radio is spot on frequency. No exceptions.

Its minimum decode threshold is 1db and minimum bandwidth is 1.5khz.

You can still hear analogue voice signals below 1db.
It does have a better decode quality over the other 3 or 4 FreeDV modes but that's about it.

I feel that digital voice is a poor option for HF.

Let's just leave digital voice to the VHF/UHF players where it shines at.

I just wanted to see if I could decode it and I did.
