I agree Firebuff66. All this encryption mostly started when people started hooking their scanners up to computers for everyone to hear. Now scanner feeds can be heard around the world.

I don't think anyone is disputing the need for new radios. Its the full time encryption that many of us don't agree with.

I'm not sure its smart going 800mhz trunking when no one else around you is, But Encryption is way to go with public safety as we all know its the only way to go.
And since they are getting Motorola....... ADP (Anti scanner encryption) comes included with the APX series radios...And just FYI Johnson/Kenwood and Harris now support Motorola ADP anti scanner encryption so now you have a choice of manufactures for the dirt cheep anti scanner encryption

Portland would be smart to go to a regional center or have Cromwell do their dispatch. From what I hear it would be a step up from big brother Middletown

Rumor has it and I have no conformation yet but watch for Trumbull, Stratford Seymour, New Haven, North haven, Ansonia and Glastonbury to go digital and encrypted in 2017 Hamden & Orange in 2018 (Those 2 really need the upgrade)

Glastonbury has been digital for 10 years. No news there.

The current Middletown dispatch channel has amazing coverage. I used to live in Farmington near the Avon line and they came in loud and clear from there, 20 miles away.

So does anyone know when the system is planned to go live? I know they were up at Portland High School about 7 months ago. I haven found any new license for Middletown and I know East Hampton EMS has purchased some APX7000 portables to be able to communicate with Middletown.

Neighboring communities were given an opportunity to purchase equipment on Middletown's Project Bid Price - so they could communicate with Middletown in the event of Mutual Aid. . . . . . . How the rest of the world is going to communicate with them , who knows...

If I recall they are doing away with ADP flash option all together on the APX line.

Looks like there are 2 licenses for the system in the FCC database.

WQYR619 - ULS License - Public Safety/Spec Emerg, 806-821/851-866 MHz, Trunked License - WQYR619 - MIDDLETOWN, CITY OF
WQYT436 - ULS License - Public Safety/Spec Emerg, 806-821/851-866 MHz, Trunked License - WQYT436 - MIDDLETOWN, CITY OF

Both have filings from the City in Dec. 2017 requesting (and were granted) construction deadline extensions until December 21, 2018.

The minutes from the monthly meetings of the Middletown Public Safety Telecommunications Commission also have updates on the construction of the system.

So if a large town goes digital how do they page out the volunteers? I thought that Motorola was only making analog pagers?

Pagers

So if a large town goes digital how do they page out the volunteers? I thought that Motorola was only making analog pagers?

FYI, they are going to use Unication pagers.

Unsure how this will work at this time, as Unication is just finalizing a Phase II model.

Check the Unication Forum for more...

PD will be encrypted. Fire will remain in the clear.

Some in portland are not happy about the encrypted thing and are making big deal about it

So is this system active yet? I just put the frequencies listed on the licenses and got nothing with a P2 system setup. When do they expect it to go live?

Monitor the PD on 155.37.

When it goes silent, they've moved.

I'd expect before New Years.

Well that’s a idea thanks for that, that really helps us out. But I was hoping someone had information. Like I said I put the frequencies in and there is not even a control channel keying up.

Timeline

I was hoping someone had information. Like I said I put the frequencies in and there is not even a control channel keying up.

From the "PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATIONS" meeting:

"Radio project update:

Chief Kronenberger asked about the time frame for the system going on line and
Director Bartolotta stated around Thanksgiving – he will be able to give a better
update next month
o Also stated was the possibility of putting repeaters system in the hospital,
that there was zero communications coming out of the building with regards
to the hospital incident
o Director Bartolotta stated that this should be discussed in advance and
talked about once again during testing.

o Continuing to work with Motorola
o Tower up at Mile Lane
o Cimarron Road site – work needed to be done prior to starting, concrete site
work in process and just about complete
o Partnership with Verizon is still good – waiting for them to get approval
from the citing council for their equipment which will be what reinforces
our tower at no cost to the city
o SBA site – starting to install electronics & antenna
o Middle Haddam – construction to start soon
o Preston Avenue & Saybrook Road – still at the same point
o Portland High School
 Commissioner Bransfield stated that they started work
 Contract under second review & hopes to have something in a week
or two
o Agreement to make sure that all issues are covered and
everyone knows who is responsible for what"

So I wouldn't expect to hear anything "on the air" for awhile...

Depends what kind of digital signal. if P25, likely one of several New Hampshire PD users. If it is DMR, Warren PD in RI.

What is Middletown using now? The signal was very strong but was not decoding under P25, Nxdn nor dmr.
