Fx2 ?????

Morning! ;-)

Well, I've combed through my "data" on Part 90 - Public Safety and can't seem to find the classification for "Fx2". I can "conjure" that it's some sort of "fixed station", but what exactly? I came across this in looking up the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's office, WQET 850. There are some low-band UHF stations on 453 and 458 mhz that are used. The e.r.p. is only 80 watts.

I'm not having much "luck" having my questions answered in the RR Wasteland and don't know how they would be received in the General Forum. Does anyone have a "clue"? Google is of no help. :-(

Without having access to my list right now, I am 99.9% sure FX2 is Fixed Relay.

I am also pretty sure they are all listed on the FCC license search page, as well.

"Corn-fusion", LOL!

"Corn-fusion" is not ethanol, it's my state of mind. I can't seem to figure out the difference in all the "Fixed" stations: Fx1 or Fx2. I do know what an FB (Fixed Base) is. That's a single frequency transceiver. If, the receiver and transmitter operate on different frequencies, there are usually "cavities" involved and it's a "repeater" Fb2. If it has a telephone inter-connect ("auto-patch"), it's an Fb2c. Now, in the "old days" (1960's) an FX0 was a simple transmitter (no receiver) used to transmit a tone to "control" the repeater, turn it off or on depending on the repeater's 'hanging open' due to interference. If the control operator had a dedicated telephone line to the repeater, they didn't necessary need an FX0. In some ways, an FX0 could be used as a "pager transmitter". But, since the invention of cell 'phones, folks don't need "pagers" any longer, I would think.

However...Shreveport Communications STILL has a low-band VHF kilowatt transmitter, within 2 miles of my QTH and STILL gives my radio gear HELL with it's overloading the front-end of my radios. Hopefully, this will become a moot point when we move sometime this year to the North side of Cross Lake. ;-) I won't be in the flight path of LSU Medical's Heliport, so I can have towers (up to 110') and REALLY pull stations in, LOL!

Ok, I digressed. Sorry, I was dreaming, LOL! All of this "class" business is way different from what I learned while taking my 2nd Class RadioTelephone ticket so I could work at commercial AM/FM radio stations and two-way radios...'member the old Mo-trac units and the dynomotor's? GOD, I hated them.

Things were simple then..... frequency was measured in "cycles" and it "Hertz" (NOT the rental car company) for me to use the OTHER term. Capacity was measured in micro or micro-micro farads, not picofarads. ;-) If my eyes were better, I'd LOVE to work on old, tube-type gear again.

Well, it's 3:30 am, I'm getting sleepy again, durn leg cramps.
