• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

What batteries are those of you using G1 pagers finding work best?
How are you dealing with totally dead batteries which the charger will refuse to charge??
I tickle them with a charged battery to get a small voltage into them at which point they will charge but would like to find a charger that could wake them up.

Unication has spent a lot of money testing batteries for their pagers. they found that the Tenergy Premium 100mAh Battery is the longest lasting best battery for their G1. Being a Unication Dealer this is the battery Unication urges us to use and sell.

I use the White Eneloops.

The old saying that you learn something every day must be true! I didn't even know they made the popular white Eneloop battery in the AAA size!
Thanks for sharing that link.

The Tenergy is what we have been selling but I am hoping to find something better as they seem to self discharge fairly quickly and then the Unication charger does not want to charge them. The problem is the charger won't provide enough current to charge a totally dead battery. I currently hook one in parallel witha charged battery of the same voltage for a couple of seconds which will impart enough charge to the dead battery to satisfy the charger. I will probably get some eneloops for evaluation. They are well spoken of in many reports and not that much more expensive.

I'll normally throw a pager with those super dead batteries in the programmer for about 30 minutes. That seems to be enough to throw just enough voltage in them so the SU Charger can charge the batteries.

I've talked to Unication repair and they don't think this is a problem. They've asked me to send back pagers, chargers, and batteries with this problem but it is easy enough to duplicate. I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing this problem.

I called Unication about the problem and they are aware of the situation. I was told there is no plan to correct the problem of the chargers not wanting to charge totally dead batteries.
Their solution was for us to use an inexpensive "dumb" battery charger to get totally dead batteries up to a level the charger would use them.
Currently my solution is to use a 2x AAA battery holder which has been wired to connect both slots then put in 1 fully charged & 1 dead battery and immediately remove them. The dead battery will then charge.
