If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey all,
I am having some difficulty with my G5. It cycles power (but not a full cycle) in the middle of pages and sometimes when it moves. I'm not sure if its a software or hardware issue. After I upgraded to the latest firmware, it seemed to not do it as much but just started doing it again more.

Does anybody else have this issue?

Mine reboots every day or two sitting in a cradle, and not always during a call.

That is not normal operation. I have a G4 at home in the amplified charger running 24/7 and i have never seen it reboot.

I also have several G4 on my desk that i leave on 24/7 and rotate them in and out of a desktop charger.

What firmware and PPS are you using?

My understanding is it is a codeplug error. One of your settings or zones has something that the pager doesn't like. I have read users that started their codeplug from scratch and by process of elimination, find out which zone / knob position / or setting is causing the problem.

It's a firmware error. I only have one zone programmed, and it shouldn't be possible to crash the pager with any combination of codeplug data. If you can do that under any circumstances, that's a firmware fail. Particularly when the pager crashes regularly (every 24-48 hours) while on USB power.

But I have had my G5 for 3 months using it 24/7 and mine never rebooted. I am using the latest firmware, but of course not the Beta. That was offered before I got mine. So if the OP is using the same firmware as me, why has mine not rebooted if there is in fact a firmware problem?

The original post doesn't make sense to me. The term "power cycle" means that the power supply to a device is turned off (for some short period), then turned back on. This is usually done by means of a switch - either manual or automatic. What does "but not a full cycle" mean?

We seem to be assuming (probably correctly) that the OP is actually describing a case of the pager spontaneously rebooting. This would manifest in the screen going blank, then displaying the Unication logo with the row of dots that change from white to red, then back to normal.

Spontaneous reboot could be caused by a firmware bug, and could affect some users and not others, depending on their programming and the types of systems that they are monitoring. It could also be caused by a hardware defect.

The OP also mentioned "sometimes when it moves". I'm not sure how to interpret that either, but if spontaneous reboots appear to coincide with physical movement of the pager, it would strongly suggest a hardware defect (such as a loose connection inside).

So I contacted my dealer, who is WONDERFUL with customer service! We tried a new battery and it was still having issues. The pager has been sent back to Unication for repair.

I am having the same issue and am on my second pager. It only happens on one knob position. The other 4 are fine. Must be in the codeplug but now sure how to change it.

Got a message back from unication saying Unit DSP Flashed and unit upgraded. Unit loaded with test programming file and tested with service monitor. Unit passed all RF testing within specifications. Anybody know what a DSP flash is? or what was upgraded?
