To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So they think its a hardware issue?
I shut both my G4 off when go to bed at night. Turned both on this morning and 1 rebooted back to the unication screen and the other showed that message. And since i cant ever get they key combo right i did a battery pull.
Starting to think i should never turn them off. LOL

Yes per Unication it’s a known issue and the unit needs replacement. I swapped with no problem.

I have the new G5 that shipped with Phase 2. Got the same error a few hours after I programmed it the first time, and sometimes get the same error after the G5 has been turned off for several hours.

I turn it off and on a few times, and it seems to come back to life. Have never done the hard reboot sequence.

Hope it's not a hardware issue that has to be sent back...it's barely 2 weeks old!

No, I get the "press DVR + other buttons" error like shown in the first post. Not very often. I turn it on and off several times a day. Also have the drop in charger, so I don't charge from USB. Knock on wood, hasn't happened now for 2 days.

Ha yeah knock on wood. I just sent mine in to get a replacement since the error I was getting was happening frequently.

I've had my G5 for about 5 months now and use it every day. I have only seen this error message occasionally when turning power on, with both the "Michigan" R11P firmware, and the newer firmware Unication released 1/2018 ("R02?"). My radio is currently into Unication for the Phase II upgrade so we'll see how that firmware behaves once I get it back.

Each time I see the error, I just hit the 3-finger button combo (hold two buttons on left side of pager plus the playback button on top for a few seconds) and that clears it, it reboots and is back to normal.

From my experience, this isn't a huge deal and only happens on less than ~2% of powerups. I have kind of chalked it up to it being a (relatively) low cost unit from Taiwan compared to anything else that can reliably receive simulcast traffic......a startup glitch once in a while might be par for the course. Have never seen this happen after it is up and running, as such I consider it a minor issue.

Is there any updated information on this issue? I occasionally get the error message shown in post #1 of this thread, but not very often.

One person mentioned he had his unit replaced due to this issue. I am wondering if any replacement units have had the same error message?

And just to be clear, the three buttons needed to reset the unit are the two buttons on the left side, plus the button on top of the channel selector?

I can confirm the reset button combo. Hold all 3 down for a few seconds with power switched on and you'll see the pager reboot (Unication splash screen, etc) on the display while it goes through the reboot sequence. Much easier than pulling the battery and believe it accomplishes about the same thing.

I've experienced a similar error on my brand new G4. However, if I just let it sit for a couple of seconds, the error screen clears itself and it goes into normal operation. It doesn't appear to restart, it just goes away, locks to the site, and starts working. Odd.

DVR issue is fixed in our latest firmware coming out in a few weeks. It fixes over the air errors when receiving unsupported data on P25. Send me a PM and I can get you a beta version before the final release that also has the fix.

I’ve tried the beta and still got the reset screen. Install the actual update V1.1 and still getting the same error. Seems to be happening more often now. I think I’m going to have it replaced

You have updated the CPS as well as the firmware in the pager, correct.
You have to use the new CPS with new firmware. They go hand in hand.

Also after firmware update have you done a battery pull?

No I haven’t done a battery pull. CPS? Is that the programming software?

My G4 has randomly crashed and given me ffffa's since I got (especially on one specific system) but was tolerable until recently. I did the (1.1) firmware and PPS upgrade and the radio became worse, crashing almost every time I wanted to use it. I either got ffffa or ffff2. I spoke to my dealer (Ray's, who was of little help in the matter) and Unication directly (via email) who stated they wanted the radio back.

Now many of us have seen numerous post these errors have come up before, but since the real kicker was that Unication acted like they could care less plus I had to foot the bill to ship back the radio. What happened to customer service in this country?

Unication claimed return shipping was at the customers cost as stated in their warranty. However, I searched all over and I could not find any sort of warranty document (even online) that existed. However 2-3 days after I shipped the radio to them they suddenly where able to send me a warranty document (which I had asked for times and times before).

I just wanted to let you all know that if you have one of the "defective units" be prepared to reach in to your pocket (beyond what you already paid for the radio) to pay for shipping so it will work as it is advertised to do.

No I haven’t done a battery pull. CPS? Is that the programming software?

The cool kids call it "CPS," and the resultant programing file a "codeplug" because that is analogous to what Motorola calls them. The Unication programming utility / software is called "PPS" aka "G-Series Pre-Programming Software," and the resulting program file is a "Profile."

I was getting #00f03 error. Try this, under tab 6 pager function list settings, uncheck receiving text message, receiving image message, receiving OTA message. I have not had the error return since i've made those changes and its been about a month. Maybe it will solve your issue maybe not.

I just took delivery of my G5 on Wednesday, and have had at least two #fffa errors on startup so far. I don't recall what system/site I was on when it happened, but I wonder whether programming errors on our part may be contributing to this. Along with my local P25 system (two sites and roughly 80 TG's), I have also entered several local analog VHF frequencies including NOAA weather. The error message does not stay visible for long before the G5 reboots or simply starts working properly. I've done two resets via the appropriate buttons. My G5 has the latest firmware installed.

I am seeing the exact same thing with a vhf/800 G5. I've had mine about a week and a half. It has only occurred after downloading from the PPS, but not always. I have two multi-site trunked systems programmed.

A little annoying, but has always corrected itself (so far).
