• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Are you able to comment on what other features are coming?
Tim:cool:
I will need to confirm with someone at Unication first. While much has already been talked about on here and the Facebook group, I don't want to discuss non-public software without given an approval.

Ok, so good news. I can talk about everything (not that kind of beta testing).

Here is what I was told that was officially new and coming to future updates: DMR, voice messages, ignore encryption, and the ability to import Radio Reference files. I did find some extras that may or may not have been intentional. I found that I don't have annoying beeps on BlueTooth where I used to. I'm still trying to verify that this is because of the update and not just a more recent G5 vs an older G5.

I have tested DMR and partially tested the ability to ignore encryption (it hasn't shown up yet but I haven't done full testing by only putting a set amount of talkgroups in a scan and comparing it to my other untouched pager).

I haven't tested voice messages and importing RR files but plan to soon.

This matches the info I have G5B67 will work for DMR the G5B64 will not.
Thanks. Even though I got my pager over a month ago mine does look like it will work with DMR then. But I feel bad for those who bought one earlier if this is the case.

I think my firmware version I'm using is 1.20 and the PPR version is 5.4 which are both beta. But I still have a lot of testing to do and there are a few things I'm not sure about just yet. Both good and bad. I'll definitely be investigating during this week.

I was an early purchaser of the G5. I felt sorry for all of those that waited because while you were dealing with simulcast hell on your scanners, I was listening to every word spoken and from 2-3 times the distance.

The signal issue isn't over or fixed out here but it does seem to be not quite as bad in the last few weeks. I've been hearing the Fort Worth radio techs doing some microwave upgrades on the different sites lately. I don't think this has anything to do with the issues that started up in October in the Northwest part of the county. But I do hope that they might be addressing other problems if it is the sites with issues while they're doing the microwave updates usually late at night. They were using EMS IO 10 as they were checking and testing some of the sites including one at Aledo Hills which they called The Parker County site.

And since it looks like Azle is going to be on the radio system by October of 2019 according to their Facebook post, I'm hoping that there will be a lot of work done in the northwest part of the county making reception better. But thankfully my G5 has been working great!

BTW, it's ironic that I can pick up the Johnson simulcast site, still in the -100 dbm range, without much trouble at all on my SDS100. For me to be able to hear them and yet have problems with Layer 2 is really confusing. The more I try to figure out and analyze what is going on, the more I'm thinking it may very well be the radio system and not my scanner with the issues.

So much seems to been conflict with how things should work that I'm still confused though haha.

So just to be clear, you are beta testing new firmware, on newer hardware?

Here is what I was told that was officially new and coming to future updates: DMR.

Sounds pretty plain and clear that DMR is coming via a firmware upgrade.

Remember, if a radio/scanner can decode Phase 2 traffic, it has the hardware to decode DMR traffic as well. It is all TDMA.

I am patiently awaiting the new firmware for my two G5's, and glad they are working out the bugs before release.
