Just curious if the old GA car-to-car and car-to-base frequencies are still in use. Since VHF has been largely abandoned in many areas of the state, I'm guessing that these frequencies are somewhat obsolete.

I have heard activity on the east side of Atlanta within the last month or so on 154.905.

Lots of agencies that are VHF still have it in their radios. Some have their 700/800 system radios and VHF for 905, 935 & 475. When I do listen, I still hear stuff.
Not like the good ole days, when you could jump on "state band" to get directions, report something, or "Request permission for a fly/by"

Yeah, I remember when each post would conduct the hourly traffic accident count around certain holidays. The post would contact each local agency on "state band" for their number of accidents, injuries and fatalities.
