I spotted a few encrypted digital groups on the system which I assumed were police.

Fire is also on the same system and unencrypted. Only found 2 talkgroups for them.

I think this system is a true P25 system, not a Motorola Type II system. I couldn't get my BC246T to track it two weeks ago when I visited Ottawa.

Correct, all the CC's are 9.6k. System Type should be changed to "Project 25 Standard".

how can the BC796D "trunk" follow a conversation for the Digital Fire Dept?
or it can't be tracked?

I know it can be done on a 396 and 996 as I've done it but I'm not sure about the 796D.

See if it has a trunk type of P25 and use that.
