For those who might be interested, I have my SDS100 set up and running in my office. I'm off of 79 more or less on the RR/Hutto line.

The SDS with the Remtronix 700/800 rubber duckie gets the Austin, Pflugerville, and Williamson County and Bastrop campuses without difficulty. OTOH, I have my trusty 536HP set up in another room with a back of set antenna and am receiving only sporadically. My guess is that some of that is the antenna and some of it might be simulcast distortion. The 536HP might be going up for sale if it turns out not to be adequate for my needs. I have a Remtronix 842 and a right angle adapter and will see if that improves reception on the 536HP.

A couple more programming questions for the area as I continue to refine my SDS scanner programming.

TXDOT has several TGs in the area. How active are they? Same sort of question for DPS Capitol units.

I've seen references to TABC on the system as well, but couldn't find any TGs in the RRDB.

DPS Capitol Units are semi-active afaik.

TxDOT sorta, HERO is completely Big E so no dice there.

APD will be going Big E soon™ as well.
(technically they're already Big E but will be dropping the clear Msel groups at some point in the near future; no I don't have a date)

Some thoughts/observations:

Most of the medical calls heard on Bastrop are sending fire/rescue units to aid the contract ambulance service ( yes, it is currently Acadian) With lift assist or entry type things.

TXDOT HERO (Highway Emergency Responce Operator) units are on the 74nn talk groups which are encrypted.

Bastrop SO is doing more and more dispatching over cell or text.

Rumors of encryption are becoming louder and more frequent.

(more as they come to me)

I figured out that the HERO TGs are encrypted, but I can't figure out why.

I guess the answer to a lot of encryption questions is "Because they can."

MOST EMS calls in Bastrop County are NOT getting fire assigned. ESD 2 and Bastrop Fire respond on some, but not all, medical calls. North Bastrop County Fire responds on most. ESD 1, Heart of Pines, and Smithville are not registered as first responder organizations with Texas DSHS. There is a separate volunteer first group that covers the entire county called Bastrop County First Responders. Those are the 21XX numbers you'll hear on Bastrop County MEDCOM 1.

Acadian dispatches its units by a variety of methods, not just by MEDCOM 1, so there's a percentage of calls for EMS that you won't hear on the radio.

Hearing the same rumors on encryption for BCSO.
