No, I didn’t hear it. I’d cut the person some slack though. Lord knows I’ve said stuff in my 22 year public safety career that I am thankful didn’t get around. They are human like the rest of us and probably had a regrettable moment in what was one of the biggest disasters of their career.

Nothing like having everything under the sun going wrong and someone else deciding to have a long conversation about something totally unrelated. I’ve experienced that about 3 times now and usually the same person is the Chatty Cathy. It is rather frustrating when a car is on its top with entrapment and you can’t get in a word. Seconds start to feel like minutes when you’re standing there with the mic in your hand. While it is important to remain professional I can easily see how someone might lose their cool in the heat of the moment. Luckily for me when they did stop yapping I said the magical word, “emergency”. I had a talk with the gentleman in question; he proceeded to give me about 20 examples of when that happened to him. Great guy but when there is an emergency he just really loves to talk too much. Since the third time he’s learned to put down the mic so others can talk.

This too shall pass for the EM guy. Tensions can run high and it’s hard to say what exactly he was looking at when he had his moment of frustration. many situations such as injured children or excessive amounts of bleeding can be very difficult to look at for some people. If you need the radio you need it right now and considering it was the EM person we can assume the situation was very bad if they felt the need to use a radio and not their cell phone.

I think we've all done that at some point in our careers, and have stories of others who have. One of those times when encryption is a good thing. 😳

Good for him saying that. It seems when a big event everyone needs to talk and just tie up the channel/talkgroup. Someone always transmits useless information and everybody needs to just listen to the EM for guidance for what info he needs. As for the profanity, heard cops tell someone to get the f*** down on the ground while there mic was keyed.

This is my last post on this thread- I got a stern talking to about appropriate radio traffic, I certainly wasn't hung out to dry.

I don't mean to come down on you, but... so what? Unless you were there in the "poop," maybe have a little bit of understanding... this was the deadliest tornado to hit Northern lower Michigan since 2007, and the largest tornado to hit Gaylord in any records I can find. To say the initial response was a bit overwhelming is an understatement. There's always going to be a short order of chaos in the beginning, and the EM held everything together for the entirety of the first day of operations. No one's going to get fired, or even scolded for saying a single cuss word on a trunked radio system. Sorry my dude, this wasn't post worthy.

I heard it here in Southern Michigan and Normally I don't receive traffic from up there, but, that's neither here nor there. But, I think coming down on someone over a single cuss word is a little on the extreme side given the extreme circumstances of the day. I think any normal human being would act the same way, so, lets give him some credit for doing his job. Just my .02

I may or may not have told a long-winded officer to 'hold your horses' while working dispatch one night when things were crazy at the desk.

I suggest you and your friend let it go. It would stink if your and your friend’s efforts to confront a swear word resulted in un-monitorable comms down the road.
.....And that's when the decision to encrypt everything was made.
