First of all,how old are they? If they're at least a couple years old then maybe replace them because the refresh function is usually intended if you use nickel-cadium cells.
When I've tried the refresh function on ni-mh cells,it hasn't helped.

I don't like the Maha charger and have not had good luck with it. It refuses to charge batteries that I've continued to use and charge elsewhere for over a year. I understand the LaCrosse charger has a rejuvination feature, but I have not used it first hand.

I have the Lacrosse charger and your can refresh with it I don't know if it does any good or not. The best thing is to buy good batts to start with. The ebay no name batts are 50/50 if you are getting what you pay for. I have been using the Duracell green and black (AA 2350 I think) and they seem to be very good. I use them in my flash units for my cameras and they seem to be about the best I have found. I also use them in my gre500 and maybe slip in energizers if the good green batts are all dead. Both seem to work good. I get way over 4 hours but it does depend on if you have a lot traffic and have the speaker turned up.
With my charger I write on the batt what it charged at the first time and the date of first charge, that way I know if a batt has shot craps and needs to be crap canned. I have also found that if the batts fully discharge the Lacrosse doesn't like it and won't charge the batt, this seems to be a AAA deal but I have other chargers that I can use to put a small charge into the batt then stick it on the other charger to fill it up.
Also don't buy those precharged batts they are lower power for some reason and they want to charge you 2x for them being charged what a rip off.

I think it's also a good idea to get a good charger. Sometimes you can find a cheap charger pack from Duracell or Energizer that comes with good batteries but the charger itself might be poor. Usually people who invest in a decent charger have fewer problems in the long run.

I've been using the maha c-777 for several years now,and it's charged everything I've fed it. Including cell phone batt. I think they dropped it from their line, too bad.

The Sanyo Eneloop batteries have been used for months in the photography world and is one of the better technologies now for rechargeables. Although charge time nearly equals use time, I DO in fact get a full 8 hours in my PRO-106 with the background light locked on (Night Shift).

There is an extremely LOW rate of self-discharge. No trickle-down when sitting unused. GREAT when going into backcountry with a couple of changeouts of charged batteries.

Search "Sanyo Eneloop" on Amazon for price. I bought the 2000 mAh "AA" batteries and stock charger.

I have some Powerex 2700s that are about 3-4 years old and in my experience, once they are that old,
the conditioning feature doesn't do much to help them. Once they get that old it's just time to replace them IMHO. It won't hurt to try the conditioning feature though.
