General Pool Question

I purchased and I am currently utilizing Gordon West's General Class exam preparation book (2015-2019) to study for my General exam. However, I am confused about a question from the pool in the book. It is question G4E07 on page 166 which asks:

G4E07 "Which of the following may cause interference to be heard in the receiver of an HF radio installed in a recent model vehicle?"

All these choices are correct
The battery charging system
The fuel delivery system
The vehicle control computer

In Gordon's book it states the answer is "The vehicle control computer"

However, every other source I have reviewed (Hamstudy.org and various other internet sources, etc..) states the answer is, "All these choices are correct"

Anybody know what gives here?

I emailed Gordon, but have yet to receive a response...

According to the official question pool published by the NCVEC, "All of these choices are correct" is the correct answer.

The situation you describe looks like someone jumbled the answers without verifying that their "correct" answer followed their re-ordering.

Its only one question, but for someone it could be the difference between passing or failing an exam.

No. I instead emailed him and asked him directly about it. Have yet to hear back.

Normally, Gordon explains why the correct answer to each question is what it is..... Does the explanation indicate that "All the choices are correct"? Sounds like a typo to me if that's the case.

To answer your question, yes he explains why the correct answer is the "The vehicle control computer."

Its on page 166, I am sure my book is not the only one, someone can easily verify by looking at a copy at their local library or browsing through a copy at the bookstore.

What you need to take away from this question is that virtually anything can cause interference in an HF vehicle installation. Proper bonding and high quality cables along with such devices as ferrite beads on control cables are a must.

I agree, but unfortunately the book does not reflect that.

You have a 1 in 11 chance of this question even showing up on the exam you get and you now know the correct answer. You've reported the typo to the book's publisher. I doubt there's much more you can do about it.

you might also check when your test prep materials were printed... IIRC the general pool was recently updated, and the GW materials you have, may or may not have been updated.

Good luck, and keep at it... you will get there, and then you'll have all of HF to explore.. I've been licenced since '95, but only got my general in '08, and my extra in '12.. but, since making general, I don't think ive been on Vhf or higher more than an hour or so. Just having too much fun on HF.

Not trying to beat a dead horse here, was just responding to a comment made...to date I have not recieved a response from the publisher or Mr. West. I now know the correct answer and I am looking forward to earning my upgrade in a few days.

The material is dated 2015-2019...it states the pool questions are supposed to be valid from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2019.

Folks after receiving no answer from Mr. West, I emailed the W5YI VEC and promptly received a reply acknowledging the error with their apologies.
