Hi,

Have a several year old Home Patrol HP-1 scanner that I would like to get going again.

Have truly forgotten just about everything i might have once known about
setting it up and using.

Would be most appreciative for any help. Will probably have lots of "dumb" questions.

a. I downloaded to my W10 pc the latest HP-1 Sentinel.

But, it will not read anything From the HP-1
Also, it will not check for the latest Firmware vers. (BTW: what is the latest ?)

The cable I am using has, what I added years ago, a tag that questions if i thought
it was good, then.
So, perhaps the reason it won't read is that the cable is bad.

I found this one on Amazon.

Besides the regular USB on one end, it has for the HP-1 end a "Mini-B Spin Male".
No idea what "Spin" means ? What does it, please ?
Is Mini-B what I want ? If so, is there anything else I should look for ?

So, is this what I want to order from Amazon ? (see below my name, please)

Or, ?

b. I am a Prime RR Member.
Does this make it any easier to import from RR for creating some new Favorite Lists ?
Or is this feature only applicable for Uniden's newer scanners like a SDS200 ?

c. Might as well also ask this:

When powering it up (first time in a few years) got an error msg concerning the micro SD Card.
Wasn't smart enoughh to copy it down.
Asked me to power off for a minute and try again.
Msg. hasn't reappeared
Any thoughts on ?

Thanks, really appreciate the help,
Bob

Any standard mini-USB cable will work.

You want the HomePatrol version of Sentinel--the icon is an orange shield. That will update the database and firmware.

Hi,

As always, thanks for All the help.

Regards,
Bob
Bob,
The same cable you use for your SDS scanner will work for programming the HP-1.

There are tons of these type cables on Amazon & Monoprice, in various lengths, with straight, right, or left hand ends to plug in the HP-1.

Hi Steve,

You'd sure think they could standardize on something, but apparently not.

The SDS-200 seems to take a Micro,
while the HP-1 takes, I think, what's called a Mini. A "bit" bigger.

I ordered a Mini from Amazon, so will see how that fits.
Hope so.

The HP-1 is a really nice little unit, infinitely less complicated than the SDS-200.
Thought I'd get it going again, if I can.

Regards,
Bob

Bob,
You're correct. I was thinking that the SDS100 & 200 had the same cable. But the 200 does a 'micro'. The mini is also correct for the HP-1, HP-2, 436/536HP, and 325P2. (I don't have a 996P2, but it's probably mini as well.)
