Hello,

I will like to first start that I am a newbie when it comes to radios, through I am Computer savvy.

I work for a small mom and pop store and we use 2 ways for communication with employes with in the premises. We have around 10 Baofeng Pofung GT-1 UHF, since some of them are beating up, we decided to buy a pack BAOFENG BF-888S UHF to add to our store. However, when I put both the GT-1 and 888s on the same channel, for some reason they do not communicate with each other.

Which leads me to the following question :

How do I program them to get them to talk to each other?
Please keep in mind I am a newbie when it comes to radios.

Thanks!

Sounds like you may have the wrong frequency or the wrong tone code. What frequency are you licensed for? Tone codes are selected locally. Both radios have to be on the same frequency and tone code to be able to talk to each other.

The new radios may be trying to use an offset, which is not needed for direct communication.

Is this the radio I was just reading about in e-ham reviews? If so, they may have voice inversion scrambling turned on by default. Turn it off by programming by chirp or a special set of button presses. Sorry, I don't remember if this is the model or what the key sequence is.

Those radios cannot be used on FRS frequencies so you must be licensed for a frequency, even an iternat one. Just don't choose any frequency you want. Please obey FCC rules. If you are licensed then check the PL/DPL settings to make sure they are the same on both radios. One other thing with those radios if your too close together you will suffer severe desense. If possible use the low power setting and get a distance away. I have 2 of them and have that problem, especially when I am testing them. I usually take the antenna off on the receiving one then do the same to the other one. These radios are the only suffer this on same frequency simplex. It's has a terrible front end on them but for $15 a piece that's to be expected.

Only if using a repeater. Desense won't occur on a simplex frequency because the transmitter is on the same frequency as the other portable's receiver. If it's a mom-n-pop store, they are most likely using a simplex frequency.

I can't help you directly, but RTFM [read the factory manual]. I'm sure if it didn't come with the radios, it can be downloaded off the internet. Also, look under the Budget and Entry Level Transceivers thread. Not sure if there is a posting in that thread, but if there is a posting on your radios, it may even explain it there. And as said above, please make sure you are operating on a proper frequency.
