• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I had a GMRS license several years ago but I let it lapse since I wasn't using it. It expired 2 years and 2 months ago. Well, I may be needing it in the near future. The family has a reunion scheduled for June. Radio communications will help us since we're not all lodged together and some activities will be conducted at different locations. The maximum distance would be 8-10 miles.

We're gonna be in the Ozark Mountains in northwest Arkansas. It's a largely undeveloped area and cell service is sketchy at best. Because of the extra power, GMRS will be better than FRS.

Since my license is more than 2 years expired, will I be able to renew it or will I have to apply for a new one?

That's probably cheaper than the last one was ---- mine was, and to keep the old call sign they wanted a $200 (+) fee to restore and renew.
I waited a couple of years and got a new call sign and 10 year license instead of 5.

My old license was the present-day price of $35 back in 2017, good for 5 years. Now it's double your pleasure, double your fun with 10 years for the same price.

Hey, David. I've been putting up GMRS repeaters local to us, if you are interested.

I've got one on the air currently in Ellerslie and another about to go live on Pine Mountain. There is a third repeater installed in Columbus, but not on the air due to a bad antenna. Not sure when that one is going to get fixed. I'll give it attention after I complete the Pine Mountain repeater. The Ellerslie repeater is covering a good bit of Columbus, so we do have some coverage as is.

These three GMRS repeaters are sponsored by the Columbus Amateur Radio Club, so no membership or dues or fees for use. Join our GMRS group at this link if you want to keep updated about the GMRS repeaters.

Thanks, Barry. I haven't replaced any of the radios that I got rid of several years ago. I'm shopping around, though. I will join in anticipation of future acquisition.
