• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I will find out more details but it says it’s an open repeater.
I know the repeater owner. I remember when I gave our group email list over so they could form the SW radio group. They immediately made it a pay service. Up until about 6 months ago, Joel was a friend of mine. He isn't any longer.

It was a closed repeater with the SW Ohio GMRS group at least 6 months ago. If something has changed since, I wouldn't know. But, I wouldn't use that repeater on principle even if it did become open. lol

Edit: I just noticed the date... 2024. It was ABSOLUTELY a closed repeater and required SW group membership dues paid to use it at that time.

GMRS radios have at least 42 CTCSS (PL) tones and over 100 DCS (DPL) codes so users don’t have to hear people outside their group. A school will most certainly be using one of these codes so they don’t have to hear you. Some radios have a tone search mode so you still might be able to find the code and annoy the school.

Did you hear the school on a GMRS frequency or an FRS frequency? FRS is license free and ok for school use but a school would not be eligible for a GMRS license.
How do you differentiate between ”GMRS” and FRS frequencies (since, with the exception of input frequencies for repeaters, they both utilize the same 22 frequencies?

To me GMRS is comprised of 8 repeater pairs and a 50w limitation. FRS is 22 frequencies with either .5w or 2w limitation and narrow band deviation. I know licensed GMRS users have access to all 22 frequencies but my question was about the school using radios and power levels needing a GMRS license, which they should not be able to get.

I hear all traffic on 462.72500 and 467.72500
Channels 22 and 30 on my radios.
My Baofeng has the search option which brings up none on the CTCSS pl tones on 462.72500, and I believe the 467.72500 is a repeater because it will show 136.5 pl tone.
So I was able to set an open channel to match the 462.72500 with no pl and TRX to 467.72500 136.5 pl
With that all my radios communicate with each other. But still not going outside my 1.5 acre lot.
I am wondering if I need a better antenna. But I would think my handhelds would transmit farther
467.725 is a repeater *input* frequency. Not designed for simplex/receive use by an end user.
