I monitor VHF/UHF and 800Mhz Digital radio systems. Our house was for sale for 4 years and never sold so we just recently took it off the market. While the house was on the market I cleaned up my outdoor antenna setup and took everything down and just used indoor antennas. Now I am wanting to go back to commercial or near commercial grade antennas but this time place them in my attic. There is a full HVAC unit with duct work and general electrical work in the attic. Can I get any recommendations and tips of using antennas in my attic?

If you have the vertical height a Scantenna is a good bet. Others will recommend discones but if VHF low band is important to you go with the Scantenna. I recently put one in my attic and it does surprisingly well. I also have a Monitenna up there which blows it away but those are scarce as hen's teeth. Keep it as vertical as possible. Bending the long elements a little doesn't seem to have that much of a bad effect.

Depending on how much height and length you have in your attic, I would go with a Comet or Diamond discone, and also the AntennaCraft ST2. If you take some pictures of your attic and post them, that would help.

The ST2 fits horizontally but not vertically in my attic. I have tried that one in the attic and doesn't do well. I will likely get a discone antenna. Mid to high VHF and P25 are the main systems to monitor.

The Comet discone is smaller then the Diamond one so that might work.
