If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all. I've searched through all of the prior postings and although
it's mentioned, my particular question is not answered.

Is there a way to set the output power settings on this unit?
I have the 25w - 45w unit. But nowhere in the software is
there a option to set the high and low power to a different wattage.
Is this something that needs to be edited with a hex editor?
Hidden menu in the RSS software? Can it even be done?

What I want to do is lower both the high and low power output.
I was thinking something like 10w low and 30w high.

Sorry..... GR1225 H5157B UHF
Software is: Radius 1225 HVN9054 version 4.0

IIRC, it's accomplished using the Service section of RSS while you have the radio connected to a service monitor or a good wattmeter and 50 Ω load. You can use sliders to adjust the low and high independently. It's been a while since I've tuned an R1225 but can look tomorrow at work to confirm.

The R1225 transmitter has limited power handeling and are not for long transmit cycles. The PA stage IS the same as a mobile..
They do burn up and turing 'down' the transmit below rated will over heat the PA, these are class C amplifiers.

And if you are familar with the Alingment and Calibration, you could use the RSS Service service menus.

Well my intention was to lower the output so as to NOT overheat the PA.
As for the Service menu, I have the "Read Radio For Service" option
but since I don't understand it, I dare NOT change anything. I certainly
don't understand the difference between "fine" and "course" Tx power
adjustment.

And most of us /\/\ guys wonder who wrote that software?
If you can just send the radio chassis only I can do the alignment.
There is also fix for the heatsink problem. Buy my lunch..

Which "heat sink problem" are you referring to, Will?
The overheating from running lower power?

That just leads me to the next question.
Question the 2nd: Then maybe I should just run the system
on "Low Power"?

This repeater is a very local system that
will be used about 3 weeks out of the year when we go to
the mountains for vacations. It's only purpose will be to keep
everybody in contact with each other and back to the cabin.
I said, "if I can get 1/2 to 1 mile distance, I will be very satisfied"
Well, initial tests show that I can open the machine with a CCR
handheld from 3 miles (as the crow files) (Far beyond my initial expectations)
So, I would be OK with just running it at low power. Yes? No?

Understood. Vacation #1 coming this weekend.
Vacation #2 coming 2 weeks after. Both are extremely
light use on the system. Vacation #3 comes at the beginning
of August which is the heaviest use. I will try to get it out
to you between Vacations 2 and 3
