Grand Forks now Encrypted

Looks like Grand Forks PD and Sheriff are starting encryption now, been out of town for a while, not sure when it started

Okay....my logs don't show any recurring encrypted comms on those talkgroups until about 9:30 this morning (December 3rd)

I noticed on December 1st they turned on their encryption. Sad. At least east side is still in the clear!

Sorry for necroposting but I sure hope Fire and EMS stay clear for the foreseeable future because a lot of areas are starting to fully encrypt Fire and EMS comms too

I would highly doubt Fire/EMS would ever encrypt in our area. Lots of departments like our rural fire and ems struggle just to purchase radios. And there hasn't been a need for encrypting. I wouldn’t worry or loose to much sleep.

I just hope the state doesn't do what Bismarck did in the late 2000s and encrypt literally EVERYTHING

I had a feeling it was because an article from Minot Daily News back in December said this.

"North Dakota Information Technology has announced that the Statewide Interoperable Radio Network (SIRN) project is on track for completion in 2027. This milestone means police officers, firefighters, EMS and other first responders across the state will soon benefit from a unified, encrypted, and reliable radio communication network.

Looks like North Dakota is going to be a total bust for scanning enthusiasts starting in 2027. Bummer..
