It's nice that this model has a separate vol. and squelch nob.

The -500 digital one doesn't if I remember right from the B/W.

But I never had an issue with the Pro-97 vol/squelch being together like others have.

Agreed it would be nice to see the 500 (and maybe even 600) with separate knobs.
They can do it for the bottom end ones so why not the high end ones.

I don't see anything really new here. They appear to be the same as the Radio Shack PRO-82, and PRO-2018, only with the "GRE" look.

This one looks just like radioshacks pro-82 why don't they make it so it doesn't look so much like the pro-82?

I don't think it's really new. GRE has had their own branded scanners for a long time. The PRO-82 was modeled after it.

But where did they sell them? Japan?

Well I have a 2018 and I'm pretty sure it's the same exact radio.. I can tell you that the 2018 is a fantastic scanner.. It's a very basic VHF/UHF conventional scanner but it's a performer.. I only use it as my local/neighborhood PD Fire scanner and it works exceptionally. The sound is so loud and clear, and it really receives well.. What it lacks in coverage above 512Mhz and features, it makes up for in pure performance and reception. This scanner might be one of the biggest undiscovered treasures out there, I really mean it.. I recommend everyone have one and use it as their primary local neighborhood scanner..
