Do you remember when UPMan would drop us beta firmware and we would have to copy the firmware to the SDS or X36 Scanners?
If someone has a copy of the last update before this one you can roll the firmware back and see if the problem goes away.

Vaguely. It goes so far back. I do remember a time or two doing an update, but it has been so long and memory is failing.

Just as an FYI, as I have an SDS100, with the most current firmware, and listening to conventional P25, no trunked, from my local PD and FD, and I get no clicking in audio.

Randy Kuff sent me the 1.23.07 firmware via e-mail. I went through the process of rolling back the firmware.

The clicking issue went away. So Uniden might want to do some firmware fixing. . .

Thanks to all who helped make this annoying issue go away!

Sounds good... Looks to be a firmware issue then and not your scanner... @JoeBearcat

Just an FYI...
My SDS200 was on firmware update 1.23.07...
I updated it to 1.23.15... And hear the same problem...
Rolled it back to 1.23.07...

Here's a thought: To those hearing the clicking sounds, when you originally updated the firmware to 1.23.15, was it on or after the March 20th release date, but BEFORE the revised March 24th date?

Before this thread, when I saw the 24th instead of the 20th, I rolled back to the version after the introduction of the waterfall feature, and back to the latest, as prior to doing this, I had updated on the original March 20th release date, but never checked it for any problems afterwards! But when I rocked the firmware versions back and forth, I did check, and I didn't hear anything wrong.

So.... Maybe try re-updating, just to be sure? It might've been a bad installation from the first release of the current firmware?

Just a guess/suggestion....

I think I'll let Uniden do their own investigation on this to determine whether it could be a bad install or glitch in the firmware itself. So far three people have confirmed this issue. . .

There may also be some differences in the internal circuitry between the SDS 100 and SDS 200...
Which could possibly be why it doesn't seem to affect the SDS 100...

If it was hardware, it would be more consistent across all audio.

I suspect it's a codec error, perhaps in implementation code, which is why it's specific to conventional P25, rather than anything else. This was a common problem with early codec development, back when open/independent MP3, Ogg Vorbis & AAC implementations were the norm. Obviously, they found fixes back then .

It might be why the 3/24 releases replaced the 3/20 versions, fixing some broken code that shouldn't have been broke in the first place. (Ie: a recompilation of the firmware most likely fixed it.)

This is why I was asking if those experiencing the problem downloaded the 3/20 version before the 3/24 version. While the SDS units differ, and the compiled firmware is incompatible between the two, they're both compiled at the same time, with the same features and code.

for what it is worth, I am on (SDS200) firmware 1.23.15 sub 1.03.06 and listen to almost nothing but p25 p1 convential and have zero issues.
Very good. When did you do the firmware upgrade? That could be the determining factor.... (I suspect it was just a recompilation of the firmware, and so updated on March 24th.)

updated on 4/11/2025

The firmware files are dated:
SDS200_V1_23_15.bin 03/24/2025 7:17pm
SDS200_SUB_V1_03_06.firm 7/11/2024 9.51am

Beauty! 🙃 Since it's updated with the 3/24 version of the firmware, there shouldn't be a problem. Now, if we hear from someone who did the upgrade before then, and they have the clicking problem, it'll confirm my suspicion, and thus my advice, to roll back and re-update the firmware.

Just for the heck of it, I updated my SDS200 to the current firmware and the offending clicking returned. When I re-rolled back, the clicking was not present.

Odd, since I (SDS100) am on the latest main and sub firmwares, and @donc13 (SDS200) also is on the latest main and sub firmwares, and neither of us get any annoying clicking from conventional P25 channels, and yet at least 3 have said they do get the clicking.
