Living Out of the county that I want to scan , I am 35 miles away trying to listen to P25 digital Motorola system 800 mhz. Public safety and City services. Previously on analog, this system came in loud and clear. With the Gre 500 stock antenna , no bars , with telescoping antenna , no bars , with rs 800mhz 2-3bars some reception. Thank you for assistance.

Good luck picking up a 800MHz p25 system at 35 miles. My 8 element YAGI can't do a tower less than 20 miles from here.

The last time I knew the Murray RS is the only RS left in W Ky and was not listed on the close list.
I live in Union City and pick up Dyersburg 800 P25 system, Missouri Statewide Wireless Interoperable Network (MOSWIN) Bootheel to cape solid, just waiting on Tn to get the UTM site and the Trenton site working. I am using a 35 year old ST2 25 feet off the ground with 40 feet of RG6.

When the conditions are right I pick up the TACN site at Dover on my SB2 as well as Ft. Campbell.
10-4 on the Murray RS.

archer signal booster??

Hello again another question, how bout "Archer signal boosters" reminds me of something on my grandma"s console tv" will this boost my incomming signal farther or cook my rig

Whistler ws1065
maxx antenna 30ft off ground
pulling in 45-50 miles

I don't use that. Thought they quit making those long ago? But I do use a 35 mile RCA digital TV amplifier that goes on one of those TV antennas. Have it hooked up with a small Yagi to my Whistler WS1080 as IT needs lots of help when it comes to reception. It boosts the reception really well, mostly in the 450-470 and 155.000 areas. Does help a bit on the 700/800. I get Chicago Digital FIRE on 478.000mhz in well using that TV amplifier. Can't get it without. It's just a simple RCA TV antenna amp you can get at Menards or Home Depot, etc.and I don't notice any noise with it at all. This is why the Whistler always stays home. It's not useful when mobile.

Thanks for replies, i pulled the trigger on one on ebay gonna give it a shot ehhh $12.00 not sure what i am expecting, but my expectations are not high. however i read somewhere the ws1065 has a hot front end, whatever that means, from what i can tell from my readings, to strong of a signal is not good

Whistler is a continuation of the GRE designs. GRE units have/had really sensitive front ends, especially on VHF. This made them able to pick up faint signals, but easily were interfered with, by broadcast FM stations.

The "boosters" mentioned can create interference, by putting too much signal into the front end.

I spent a lot of time, money and effort weeding out a lot of options until I found this was the best combination to work with.

A few notes to consider and understand.

1. The LNA really needs to be mounted at the base of the antenna, not at the radio.

2. FM Broadcast filters are typically required on the INPUT to the LNA. Other input filters may be required depending on local high level signals.

3. Sometimes a 3-10 dB attenuator may be required at the scanner input. Do not plan on using the scanners built in Attenuator, they are typically around 20 dB have too much loss.

4. Without access to a spectrum analyzer and/or a SDA and software that will allow you to analyze spectrum, you are somewhat operating in the blind and will need to experiment a lot.

5. Do not expect miracles out of the box, often the signal path needs to be balanced out. Variable attenuators are a good tool to have available to quickly change levels in the system.
