Anyone successfully able to get the GRE cable to work wit Windows 7?

When you plug it in for the first time, Windows 7 automatically installs a driver for it but when you try to search for a port in PSREdit it gives you an access violation error.

Device manager shows the driver is properly installed.

I would suggest downloading the latest drivers from either the GRE site, or the FTDI site.

GRE 30-3290 USB PC/IF Driver - Powered By Kayako SupportSuite

http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/CDM/CDM 2.04.16.exe

Unplug the cable, install the drivers, and then plug the cable back in.

I can't speak to PSREdit but I know for a fact that the GRE cable will indeed work with W7.

I have been using it since early beta through the current version of W7 with Win500 with no problems.

I had no problems at all with Win7 32bit. Plugged in the cable, let it install the drivers... fired up PSREdit and away I went.

The Win7 installed drivers work with WIN500. Here's the Win7 driver info.

Provider: FTDI
Date: 6/27/2007
Version: 2.2.4.0
Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows hardware Compatibility Publisher

You can check the driver using Device Manager, listed as USB Serial Converter. If you don't have the correct driver (2.2.4.0) or if USB Serial Converter isn't listed, run Windows Update. Windows Update will down load and install the current drivers.

I had the same problem here. Windows 7 was installing an old FTDI driver.
Go to the FTDI web site and download the latest drivers (the last time I checked they were from Feb, 2009)
Install this new driver and it should work fine. (It did for me).

Timing is everything :)

Earlier today Windows Update downloaded an update to the FTDI USB Serial Converter Driver. The new (32 bit Windows) driver 2.6.0.0 is dated 10/22/2009.

One note, with the new driver Win7 now shows the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" icon for the USB/Radio Scanner cable on your Task Bar.

Bottom line the latest driver is 2.6.0.0 or 2.06.00 and is dated 10/22/2009. You can go to FTDI's website to download and install or get if from Windows Update.

I've not seen this with any of my data transfers, although I'm using the FTDI version 2.06 drivers. If you haven't already, you could try installing that version.

The Version 2.06 installer is available from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/CDM/CDM20600.exe

Windows 7

I tried WIN500 and did not like it and now I'm using ARC500 software. I used them both on Windows 7 and to my surprise I did not have a problem. When I installed the device I used the Vista drivers and the default port ended up being “usb\Com3.”

PSREdit and Win500 both have auto settings for rebanding on 800MHz Motorola trunking systems. IOW the software auto sets all 6 lines of 5 items each for rebanded system when user selects the option

ARC500 requires the user to manually type in the 6 lines of 5 items each. Of course its a one time setting for each TSYS requiring rebanding.

Thanks, that adjustment seems to have taken care of my Write issues, no more Checksum error.

Works on my System

I upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7 and the USB cable worked right away using the driver I had previously installed on the system when it was using Vista.

Vista, loaded the latest FTDI drivers (2.6.?) but Win500 says that the FTDI drivers are not loaded :(
Windows seems happy with the driver , assigned COM7 to it..
