I know this is like asking "Which is better,Ford or Chevy?" But what does everyone think of the GRE PSR600 and the Uniden BC996? I am leaning toward the GRE unit and was wondering if both units use the same type of programming software,etc.etc. I have heard that the GRE has a little better reception than the Uniden,and I live about 30 miles from my county dispatch center,and they have just switched to a full APCO-25 digital system. So give me your opinions. I live in Scott county Minnesota by the way. Thanks!

there both great units hence i have one of each lol they also both have there pros and cons.
Pick one and stick with it ps the psr600 is a radio shack 197 that you can get get from rad shack for 399 now

I see on the ARMER System: Scanner Frequencies: Allied Radio Matrix for Emergency Response (ARMER) Trunking System, Various, Minnesota that there is some encryption. One of the nice features about a 996T is that it mutes encryption and continues to scan on a P-25 9600 system...a GRE does not. If the ARMER is a 9600 system, then a Uniden is well worth the investment. However, wait for the 396XT to see how well it works. The RS Pro-106 are/were (??) on sale. However, after you buy the charger and USB cable, the price is not much different from the GRE 500. I have a Pro 106, I think it does better on the Virginia STARS system (no encryption...yet) but the Uniden is my clear choice on the JC/YC/WMBG (Williamsburg Va area) P-25 system because of the encryption mute. I really like the data dump on the Pro106 when I am using it with PRO96com (Control Channel Monitor). It does a perfect job on dumping data for STARS much better than the older RS Pro96.

+Very sensitive on all bands, but...
-Interference from cell sites, paging, FM broadcast, etc.
+Excellent audio - analog and P25
+Displays decoded data from trunking and P25 channels on screen
+Handles poorly adjusted trunking systems cleanly
+Excellent CTCSS/DCS performance - always mutes audio at EOT
-Search/tune steps not selectable
+Can combine trunking talkgroups, conventional freqs and search in the same scanlist
-Poor memory organization - no subgroups for large or multiple systems
-V-scanners not useful unless you travel between areas
-1800 object / 20 scanlist limit for each V-scanner
+Flexible configuration - almost everything can be customized
-No WFM mode
Uniden DMA (systems / groups / quick keys) is the best method to organize freqs. Everything in the scanner is accessible in the same memory space.
