This is a really good feed but, It has been more unreliable than not due to being offline during any impeding adverse weather conditions that happen to occur in the area and also for being offline at night time hours and during holidays .
The feed needs to stay up, online and running during bad and adverse weather and during night time hours and holidays so, that the listeners can keep informed on whats going on.
Keeping the feed online only during non bad or non adverse weather and during daytime and non holidays only sorta defeats the purpose of having a scanner in all reality.
I am not knocking the feed at all since (when online) its a great feed, Just offering a suggestion and adding my input on the feed.
I love the feed by the way when its actually online!!!

I think in this case of a certain need to know as you seem to address, getting a scanner yourself would get rid of the problem, then you can use it whenever and however you need to, They really are not that expensive and you would never have to rely on others for the communications you so desperately want.

I just thought id put my two cents in on this post cause i also listen to this feed very often when it is online.
What about the listeners that listen to the feed that are out of the area and are un able to pick up the feed on a local scanner??
I have family that lives up in (addison) county and It is nice to know what is going on in the county especially during the adverse weather and nights and holidays.

The original poster had it right in a couple aspects, It would totally defeat the purpose of this website if you just went out and got a scanner, This website is supposed to be for the people who are unable to or cant afford a scanner and so listeners who are unable to in other ways can stay informed of emergencies.

For instance wouldn't you want to know if someone you know, a friend or family member had a medical issue or if a fire broke out at someone you knows house or a family members house and they where not able to contact you about it at that time for some reason?

I don't know about you but, I know that i would want to know about that.

This site is also meant for the people that are not in the area who are not able to listen to the feed where they currently are (on vacation, traveling ect...)

So there is a valid safety hazard to having feeds such as this be offline, It goes beyond just "wanting to know". There is a valid reason behind this thread and about keeping the scanners online (unless the power went out or a technical issue prevented from being online) Other than that, The owners should be required to maintain the feeds for safety purposes....

Don't be ridiculous. This is a hobbyist website and none of the examples you gave hold water. People that run feeds are not getting paid and are doing so voluntarily so they are obligated to provide you with nothing, really. Enjoy what you can when you can, and stop complaining about the free service you are getting. :roll:

Consider this - if the feed had never been put up in the first place, would its absence still be a "valid safety hazard"? I had to compose myself after reading that post. I believe it to be the best example of a self important listener that I have seen in my 30+ years in the public safety communications field.

I offer the following for those who wish to estimate the importance of their ability or lack there of to hear a given radio system- If you have a properly authorized 2-way radio on the system, and your unit number is less than about 30, you are probably somewhat important. Otherwise, no one except you is going to be greatly concerned simply because you can't hear the system anytime you care to.

-----> WOW <-----
Hope nothing major happens in my area, otherwise Everyone would be at great risk and harm since I don't provide a feed.
