Does having a ground wire improve, decrease or do nothing as far as reception on a scanner?
In other words, will my range be affected by a ground?

That was discussed (just as convolutedly) on another thread.

IN GENERAL, grounding an antenna (VHF and above) has little, to no noticeable difference in reception.

You can get some reduction in noise IF the noise is due to static build up on the antenna, and you can get some reduction in interference IF the interference is due to signals that enter the transmission line rather than the antenna.

These are not typical in scanner installations.
