Throwing out the idea of a group purchase for the highly anticipated WS1095.

Benefit to RR members would be a discounted price, known shipment date with earliest delivery of a radio a lot of us want to buy.

Benefit to the vendor would be increased sales as the one and only vendor allowed to participate in this group purchase. Vendor would also know ahead of time as to how many units to order from Whistler on their initial shipment so your back stock would be minimal.

Vendor would handle all parts of the transaction, including a deposit for the pre-order, then charging the customer the balance owed once unit ships.

RR members... interested? Any vendors? Open to all suggestions.

I think that there is only a very small handful of vendors I think would be trustworthy enough to do this.

Me .. I am expecting to pay like $800-$900 Cdn for it as it will be at least $100 more here.

I think before you do this .. I think you should email a few vendors to get their input.

That would be true back in the days before the internet I drove to evansville several times from west tn to buy from Jeff at the ham station at the jewelry store location.

Group purchases barely work for scanners now days... the profit margins are soo low its hard to get a huge discount.

Sure it may work for an order of 100 (which could be done with all the members here)... keep us up to date on what you find.

Also this scanner will be VERY popular when it comes out and vendors will likely sell out right away (each get allocated a certain amount etc)... so chances that they can even get say 100 units available are slim

Plus the chances they will take $100 off each scanner is slim as well... due to demand..

Now if you were looking for a discontinued GRE 500/800 or Phase 1 Uniden 396XT/996XT you can DEFINITELY get a discount on them

Well you guys can hold onto your $$$ a while longer, the email I received today says that Whistler is projecting the ship date to LATE MAY, it seems they can't get their dates right either.

Would you rather have them ship it with possible bugs just to hit a dead line or wait a while and have it ship ready to go!?! I would guess that GRE didn't fully finish the design and that is why its taking so long to release it.

I would like to see wider distribution of the 1095 from various sources. If we rely on one source, and that source goes away for any reason, we could have some issues.
With regard to waiting til all the bugs are worked out, theoretically that makes a lot of sense. On the other hand, if some of use don't do field testing with our respective analog/trunk/digital systems in our locations, many of these bugs will never be detected. We, the scanner users, put these things through their paces much more extensively than can any one person, or select group of beta testers, can for Whistler or Uniden.
Finally, if the group decides that finding a central vendor is a good idea, then I agree with dconti in post #5 that Jeff at Ham Station should strongly be considered. Jeff has a personal interest in scanning and has been a pleasure to deal with.

The Ham Station is a great dealer. And I would rather Whistler work out the bugs first.
