Does anyone know what or how many counties in the state of Georgia will be going this new digital network that no scanner will be able to receive?

I don't know where you heard of the state moving to any digital system at all, much less a digital system that no scanner will be able to receive. SouthernLinc is like Nextel, a cellphone/walkie talkie type service for businesses. GSP tested it out for a while and it was miserable, but that was long ago.

Today, the state is implementing an 800 MHz ANALOG Motorola trunked system... the very simple type that EVERY TrunkTracker since the very first TrunkTracker scanner has had no trouble at all monitoring.

Scanner monitoring digital systems

The reason i bring this up is there are alot of digital systems out there and some cannot be monitor. This is such a great hobby i hate that one day noone in free america could hear their local and state police.

There are VERY, VERY few public safety digital radio systems that cannot be monitored by modern scanners. Most can be. Regardless, I still am not quite sure where the "rumor" that the state of Georgia was going digital at all ever came from... much less any form of digital that cannot be monitored.

GSP Digital

I am a DMVS officer here in Atlanta. GSP and DMVS will go fully digital state wide when the funds are in place. You will be able to listin to it with the right type of scanner. Also, HERO and DNR units will use the same system. The plans for the system have been completed for more than two years already. The system is just waiting for more money. By the way there is not such agency called the Georgia State "Police" or "Metro Atlanta Fedral Police"
Its State Patrol and Federal Protective Service. The GSP is not a police agency we are a patrol agency we do not investigate crimes other than traffic related. The GBI is the investigative wing of the state.

Georgia State Patrol Trunking in Atlanta

GSP Troop C began using the state's single site system downtown in December of 2003 (there are no plans to put sites in Marietta, Stone Mountain, College Park or Fayetteville those were the sites for the old olympic system that were removed years ago) I personally installed and currently maintain the Centracom Gold Elite consoles used by GSP Atlanta, and I installed the ASTRO Spectra Digital Consolettes that interface them with those trunking systems. They have since pretty much abandoned the state's single site system due to poor coverage and now operate on the City of Atlanta's 27 channel simulcast system. They do have plans to use the state's systems in Milledgeville and Athens, it's programmed into some of their radios, although I'm not sure they've ever started using them. All of the new mobiles GSP purchased are Digital Capable, but they have no plans to use digital modulation anytime soon. That just gives them room to expand to digital in the future. The iDEN setup GSP was using has been removed from the post in Griffin and installed in Atlanta though rarely used. I'll post more if anyone has any questions.

Some of you have gotten confused with digital and nextel/southern linc.
They are not the same. There is no scanner for nextel / southern linc.

Almost every system installed from now on will be digital. The way to go is to plan on getting a digital scanner.

APCO25 digital is what can be monitored using a digital scanner such as the PRO96.
