Guelph on Byron

Does anyone know why im getting guelph police ops 3 on the byron tower? Nothing is patched in or anything and im seeing GPS units poping up on T88 and getting it on my 396.. Never herd guelph PS ever

Maybe there is a Guelph PD in the area or at least far west enough to set off the London tower.

Every then and now they travel far enough into Hamilton that they affiliate with Charlton.

Was about.. 13 different units i caught talking with in the.. 15 mins or so.. one dispatcher and few special constables.

A couple of weeks ago when I was through Guelph, OPS3 seemed to be used for Court Traffic. That would explain the Special Constables that you are hearing.

It's possible a Guelph Courts vehicle was in the London area transferring prisoners.

The Guelph talkgroups don't seem to have a geographic limitation on them like the other Fleetnet talkgroups.

Correct. Since Guelph was the first user on the system, it doesn't appear any geographic limitations were setup on their talkgroups.

I see Guelph talkgroups on Edgar at times.

I usually hear Guelph off the Byron tower once every couple months.... both PD and FD. They usually aren't there for long though.

Hmm... I'll have to add them Tg's into my T88 and put an alert on them buggers now
Was just wondering if this was "normal" or not since there was no patch or anything.

So how does that work? a GPS unit is in london say.. transmitts and just hits all the towers kinda deal?

Thats the whole idea behind networked systems, that you can (to some degree) roam outside of your 'home' area and still get coverage off of different sites. The confusing part with these Guelph units is that you wouldn't expect them to have access to their talkgroups this far away. Talkgroups are mostly restricted to a region around where the user typically is. For example a Middlesex OPP car can hit a tower anywhere between Ipperwash and Woodstock and be granted access. However he wouldn't be able to take his cruiser up to Orilla and still be able to talk on OPS09... The site would deny him access there (That's where the wide area talkgroups like 1London, 1GTR etc would be used).

It would seem the Guelph units have a little more freedom to roam than most other units, for whatever reason.

This would be why I see alot of Rejection site access denied on T88 aswell then? Units from out of this "area" trying to get their home TG or somthing like that off the byron area tower?

So why would we hear guelph fire off byron? Same deal.. a fire truck is out this way and just hitting the tower kinda deal?
All seems rather neat to me now

I really don't know why fire would be over here. Perhaps some fire brass are in the city for a conference or meeting or something and has a portable on. That would drag their talkgroup over here.
