I've been struggling over the last several months to try to get some repeaters with decent coverage on the NJTurnpike and the GSP - more specifically, right at the NJ/Del line right up to Exit 12 (GSP exit), then back going North up to Paramus. I'm familiar with the 146.79 system up there (is it PL'ed? I think so...); the 146.925 repeater used to be pretty good up to exit 5 or so on the Turnpike, but it seems like their coverage has been cut in recent years.

I have an Icom 207H, covers 2 and 440 with a Diamond dual bander. I drive from my home in central Md. up to Bergen County (specifically Bergenfield, then further NNE into Hawthorne) rather regularly, since that's where my family lives. Thanks in advance for any help!

For starters, you can check out the W2NJR linked repeater system. Full details may be found here:

http://mywebpages.comcast.net/w2njr/

Yes; 146.79 in Paramus requires CTCSS - 141.3.

Other active 2m repeaters in the Bergen/Passaic County area include:

145.450 - CTCSS 100.0
146.700 - CTCSS 141.3
146.835 - CTCSS 151.4
146.955 - CTCSS 141.3

Active 70cm repeaters in the same area include:

442.000 - CTCSS 156.7
443.750 - CTCSS 141.3
448.875 - CTCSS 151.4

Don't be surprised if you hear very little traffic during your stay; repeater use in this area has really died down quite a bit in the last few years.

Yeah, the few that I had that did work seem awfully quiet - a shame, too, when you've been on the road for a long time, it can really ease the stress a bit. Thanks for these - into my RT Systems file they will go.

Hmmm...I don't have 220 capability, but thanks anyway.

Interesting site about the NY repeater system - I don't go quite that far north, thankfully. I used to - one of my brothers used to live outside of Fishkill, but that's quite a hop from where my family is now.

Thanks all 73s Mike

I suggest when you get about half-way between 7A and 8 on the NJTP, you give us a shout on 146.625, 141.3. We're a busy repeater, and always like to talk to new people!

I'll be sure to stick that in the memory Scott. No doubt I'll be stuck in traffic on the NJTP at some point during the upcoming Xmas season, and will start flipping frequencies....73s Mike

I actively monitor both the 146.700 (-600) PL 141.3 which is located in the Ramapo Mountians of Oakland, NJ. Also I monitor 146.8350 (-600) PL 151.4 which is the linked system you talked about above. I would be honored if you gave a shout on either machine, I have always wanted to talk to the legendary ka3jjz.

Where is your repeater located and what's the NAC ? The link in your signature is for search sites.

Now now Justin, don't go giving me a swelled head; I'm no legend, but I have been known to be a legendary pain in the ... well, you get the idea :D

I'm likely not going to be up in Hawthorne until Xmas Eve sometime, and maybe not until Xmas. My 74 year old mother is going to be something of an issue, and whether she wants the kids down at her place, or we go to my brother's place is up in the air at the moment. 6.70 can be pretty scratchy in the Bergenfield/Totowa area, but maybe on the .835 machine while I'm driving in....

Not very likely, Bob, unfortunately. I will very likely be driving back to Maryland Tues morning early, as I have to be back at work on Wed (Tuesday is my reserved travel day). I will likely be among the thousands of folks on the road Xmas Eve as I need to cover a production implementation where I work the day before (what SCROOGE would schedule a major implmentation on Xmas weekend??? How DARE he, HI) The system I'm responsible for has been problematic at best, so it's very likely the 23rd is going to be a long and difficult day (I'd be very surprised if it wasn't).

Have a nice holiday and 73s Mike

Well it'd still be nice to talk with you if you have a chance! The .835 has a bit better coverage from the south, even hough it's located in Rockland County NY. Anyway if you can swing it great, if you can't well then I will be hurt beyond repair!! YES I'm kidding relax folks I think we all; can use some levity in these times. Just let me know what day you're driving in and I'll keep and ear out for you.
