"Hello" everyone , Please forgive me if this is not the right place to ask this question , but I did not know were to place this question , so I thought this would be the right place to ask. If it is not please move this thread.

My question is can some one move me in the right direction to learn about the rules of the Ham world ? And maybe a study book or guide to the Exam ? This is kind of embarasing but I have been taking the practice test on the QRZ Web sight and can not pass the practice test the highest I get is about 67%. And the reason is , is because I don't know some of the rules and the electrical part of the Ham bands and so forth and so on . So any help would be very Thankful. Thanks---- Jason

Direction Help

The questions are based on a pool of questions in the neighborhood of 350. They can be found online and downloaded. I don't know the link, but google is your friend.

Study guides are based on that pool and cover each one with the answer and some limited background. The following are both good links to purchase the guides. Another possibility is forum for sale or post a WTB For a used edition.

Checkout www.hamtestonline.com its part of a series of internet instructional websites. Hamtestonline offers a free trial that is limited so a certain portion of the element of llicense you wish to take. Not only does it demonstrate theory, you are also given visual aids and reminders. The site also tracks your progress. There is a fee to subscribe for full access, but many friends have said it was well spent. For at least 2 of them, it made the difference between memorizing the test pool to actually understanding the concepts behind the test questions.

Good luck and keep up the good work.

Great!

A class can be a good way to go. The entry level test isn't hard at all, good way to get started. Keep us posted on your progress, and you can impress us with all your "new knowledge soon!

A club is a great way to get started and to continue to the next levels. Clubs will also be active in local events that use radio operators so it give you another activity.

Last weekend I helped in the Southlake Patriot Pedal event and enjoyed working with other club members and the event organizers. Clubs are also another source of information about radios, antennas and accessories that work well or don't.

Good Luck

Ham Tech Book

I would suggest that you buy the Gordon West Ham Radio Technician Manual for like $18.00. I read the book during a weekend and then took my exam. I passed the exam on my first try. Alot of the material that was in the book was on the test. WORD FOR WORD! I was so supprised how easy the test was. Thats just my two cents.

Good Luck!

I recommend Gordo's books over the extra-dry ARRL books as well.
