You're right Grog, Gordo's are the best.
I recommend Gordo's books over the extra-dry ARRL books as well.
Lug, absolutely.... You're already paying to take the Tech, might as well and take the General while you're there. Especially that you're already in the passing ranges of the practice exams.
If you're using QRZ to take practice tests, don't randomize it. Start off with test 1 and then go to test 2 etc. If you're consistantly making 80% or better then you're almost sure to pass the real test. When I was studying for my tests I didn't bother going for the actual test until I was making at least 80% passing on the practice exams.
And when I went to take my general I made a 100....
So since you're making that kind of score on both tests I say go for it! You'll walk out of there as a general, and will be able to fully enjoy all facets of the hobby. Then you can go treat yourself to a nice multiband HF/VHF/UHF radio like the IC706MKII or the FT-817/FT-897.
Good Luck on the 11th
Its just the one fee. That's the point. You're already paying to take tech, so you might as well take the general while you're there. It doesn't cost anything extra. You're not paying for each test you take, you're paying for that session. So if you take tech, and change your mind and decide to wait until another day to take general you'll have to pay another 14 dollars.
You're doing good on both practice exams. GO FOR IT. The worst that can happen is you not pass. But from the sounds of things, thats not likely to happen.
Hey all, new user here (just joined today) and I think I'm going to take the plunge. Might as well... already have the ARRL book at home (If i can find it) that my uncle bought for me. He has since passed away and I figured I might as well better myself and do something in my downtime in dispatch at work and read the book.
I will keep you all updated on my progress. Once I find the book I'll dive right in.

You'll pass it the next time, that was my downfall too, I rushed through it the first time and failed (by just one question) and the next time, I took my time, thought about the question and I passed. Good luck on the next one tho, did they tell you when the next test was?
