For the listeners in Hampton Roads, here is an update to my earlier post of the federal law enforcement frequencies in Hampton Roads that are active. NAC codes are listed if they were displayed. Note that the USCG and the Marshals both use NAC 293.

The FBI, Marshals, DEA and ICE are almost always encrypted with the exception of an occasional radio check in the clear. The USCG encrypts some, but not all, traffic on CG-114, CG-409 and the CG Net frequency.

Nothing was received on the known or legacy CBN, USSS, ATF, DCIS or NCIS frequencies.

163.8375 FBI This used to be the "extended car-to-car" (ECC) rptr back in the day
165.7000 FBI Hampton Roads Federal Interop
167.2125 FBI N167
167.5625 FBI Used to be known as “FBI Common” N167
167.6875 FBI N167 Rptr in Driver, VA
171.9750 FBI N167
173.7875 FBI N167 Rptr in Driver, VA

170.8500 Marshals N293

170.6750 DEA N156 Hampton - according to RR
170.8125 DEA N156 Norfolk

172.8625 ICE

163.1375 USCG CG-113 Sector Virginia Clear voice
164.3000 USCG CG-114 Both clear & encrypted monitored
165.3125 USCG CG-121 N293 Sector Virginia
171.2125 USCG CG-130 Clear voice
171.3625 USCG CG-134 Clear voice
406.5625 USCG CG Net? Both clear & encrypted monitored
412.9750 USCG CG-409 N293 Sector Virginia, Station Little Creek Both clear & encrypted monitored.

Is there much to hear on those Coast Guard channels? I only listen to them on the VHF marine channels, 16 and 22 I think. Was wondering if it is worth it to try and program the channels you posted above.

I typically hear Station Little Creek or Sector Virginia reaching out on CG-409 in the clear to CG cutters (or an aircraft) asking for position reports. And I usually only hear one side of the conversation. CG-409 is the most active, and even that doesn't come up every day. For example, it's 3:00 in the afternoon and none of those CG channels I listed have come up according to my ProScan log.

One other frequency worth monitoring is 345 MHz which is the CG air ops primary. The planes and helicopters out of Elizabeth City use that all the time when they're up.

Hey buddy! How much encryption are you hearing on the Sector Hampton Roads? I've been meaning to get that all programmed up!

The most active channels for me are CG-121 and CG-409, and they are bout 50/50 encrypted/clear. I don't hear the remaining USCG channels very often. That could be because of my location and the lame discone antenna that's in my attic.

One more to add to the list, even though it's probably not considered law enforcement:

169.7875 Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. Monitored clear voice transmission.

173.8125 came up for the first time in months. Clear voice with tone of 167. Years ago this used to be the FBI rptr west of Williamsburg.

169.7000 also came up for the first time. Encrypted with no tone. Anyone know who might be on this freq?

Thanks for the response. 169.7 is listed on the Fed Files Blog as belonging to the Marshals. (don't know how accurate that site is). A few years back the Capitol Hill Monitors listed it as a DHS freq. And the NTIA printout shows it as "intermittent use nationwide."

Like you, I think because of the encryption, I would go with the Marshals.

173.8125 with $167 is 100% the FBI, they do however allow the USMS access in some Field Offices as they have an MOU to Dispatch for them

As to the Fed Blog the page (assuming I am looking at the same page) indicates Dec 2011 and is talking about NYC, and that NAC was not $167 but $864

Frequencies are generally no longer exclusive to particular agencies and get re-used by other assignments thru the NTIA
