Hello, I just got a new hand-held radio scanner for Christmas, but I'm kind of having trouble figuring out how it works. I'm trying to listen to the tower at MKE, so I set my scanner to the frequency (119.1), but the only thing I'm hearing is the planes that are calling in asking for permission to land. I can't hear the tower saying anything to the planes that are landing/taking-off, and I can't hear any of the planes that are at the airport either. The approach they're using right now runs right over my house, so am I just out of range? I live about twelve miles south of the airport, so what's going on?
This is the scanner that I have: RadioShack® 200-Channel VHF/AIR/WX/UHF Handheld Scanner - RadioShack.com
Here's the frequencies for MKE: General Mitchell International Airport, Airport Identifier KMKE - Airport Procedures & Diagrams for General Mitchell International Airport KMKE
(Mods: I accidentally also posted this topic in the RadioShack Reciever Forum earlier because I didn't see this one, so please delete that one, thanks)
