about every 6-7 months my 250-D will have problems returning to the control channel. im using control channel only trunking for CSP. and it keeps hanging up on 866.750 , control ch. 868.5625 (in the hartford area) now about a year ago , it was hanging on a different freq. so i tried programming all the freqs for the hartford area last year , and it didnt make a difference, i still got one freq. hanging after transmissions , and it not returning to the control channel. or moving on to the next freq. does anyone know what causes this (other than the 250-D and 785-D are junk) and what if anything can be done to correct this ? thanks.

Too much antenna. Sounds like intermod or overload from nearby tower system. Try to ATT the controller and alt freq if it has one. Find an antenna that is smaller. Several tricks to get away from these issues. This may not be a fix but unless you try things along this line first you want know what to try next. Good Luck

aawww ....yes , the old attenuator trick.....iv tried that also when i programmed all the freqs in for troop H , and again ....no luck , tried it conventional also , with no luck , the antenna trick .....like i said before , and i appreciate your input , dont get me wrong, but this happend before for a while , then it went away , now its back , i dont know hopefully this will go away again , but id love to know what makes the freq. hang after a transmission....damn! changing of the seasons , the sun coming closer to earth...lol ....sun spots ? thanks for the reply though! and its not only my 250-D its the 785D two different antennas , my mobile , and the radio shack 800 antenna on the 250-D. the other antenna is a randall larson (speacial) i think thats the name of it.

You can never have "too much antenna".

The intermod comes though due to poor reciever design or lack of filtering internal to the scanner.

The CSP uses some of the freqencies that suffer from the "Birdie" problem that I believe your scanner suffers from. There are a few threads about it here in the fourm.

I wish I lived in the southern catskills. I wouldnt have any intermod either. Greenville SC is intermod hell. ALL my scanners have PL/DPL BC-780-796d, PRO-2067 and 2096 and must use ATT on all freq except fire simplex. Non PL scanners just want work in this area. Portable scanners must have a STUBBY duck to aid in cutting down signal. Local Mtn top loaded with digital paging on SEVERAL freqs VHF thru 937 and several UHF business band repeaters 460.650 thru 465.0 B1G outside antennas dont sell in this area.

I am having that problem right now with my control set for Troop C. Earlier this week it was hanging on one freq and today it is hanging on another. This is on a BC796D.

try increasing the squelch a bit, I have the same problem occasionally and that seems to do it.

1. milair
2. I-CALL feature
3. passport trunking
4. PRO-VOICE
5. encryption decoding.....(lol)
6. the FBIs service search feature , able to do encryption (of course)
7. secret service service search feature .
8. my own private line to the white house oval office.

Mine started the other day when all transmissions were digital. This has happened before and it is cured by turning off then on. It is a common thing with this scanner so I read how to cure it. But this hanging never happened before this. Could be a problem with scanner but you can bet Uniden will not fix it. Also with my squelch turned all the way to the left helps a little.

:) Keep the Faith. On CSP, 866.4375 Hangs For Sure. Takes A Few weeks To Get Rid of. Usually Happens About This Time Of Year, Assuming It Is Atmospheric, Do Not Have The Problem Otherwise. I Listen On A 796d.

Bob, That is sweet music to my ears. I just noticed it is not hanging every time now. My 796D is a little over a year old and I can not afford to have it fixed. Thanks again, I am sure glad you posted.

Some bad problems last night with my 796 sitting on 866.7500 Turned it up and heard the Nextel chugging noise.
Try this if you want:
- HOLD
- TRUNK
- back off the squelch
- step through each frequency.
- disconnect antenna & repeat
If the interference is present with no antenna and the squelch off, it is likely internally generated. If the interference goes away, it is likely outside the radio.

thanks eyes00only , i knew there were a couple of things.....but 99.99 ? ...why so high ? .....oh yea that nifty encryption decoding thing ....ok yea id pay that price , i guess !! and BOBMICH52 your right , like i said in my original post , it seems like once a yr this thing happens . and i also get the hanging on 866.4375 , i use control channel only trunking , so when im on my way home to springfield or on my way to work in hartford , it sometimes switches zones on my radio , so either way i get a double whammie , i get the 866.750 on troop Hs system , and the 866.4375 on troop Ks system in colchester. i feel like i cant win! hopefully this will go away again soon

Hanging

Hello all in the group. I just wanted to say I have the same thing happening to me. I live in Torrington & travel to Canton & sometimes to Manchester. I'm finding that it sometimes hangs on the control channel on Avon Mtn, Canton/New Hartford line & around RT219/202. I hit the resume button but it's a pain :(. I programmed all the frequencies that are listed only because the freq won't travel far (as we all should know) & I think what's happening is the channel gets a weak signal to receive?? I tried to look at times & notice the meter is going up & down quite a bit. Any advice for me?? BTW, there's a bunch of talkgroups on here that I can't seem to find out where they are, Anyone know? Just in the last 15 minutes, sitting here in Manchester. Example- 3225,53168,3200,2480,1168 (at RT12),3760,19600,7312,2704,7312(Heard trooper(s) calling Troop H,C & K, wow) & more. It also seems to open the squelch in Analog for a few minutes as well?? Pretty strange things happening & loosing my mind, but that's enough. It never seems to happen in the Torrington area. Thanks in advance for any info.... Joe (BCD296D).....
