Hi all,
Could I just a quick question? I just dug out my Yupi 7100 as (living close to Norwich Airport) listened to a bit of air traffic from Norwich. Also, scanned some SW bands. It's kind of re-ignited my interest in ham/wide-band (not sure what to call it)
So I soon found myself googling to see what newer models are available and came across the R30. Would someone be kind enough to let me know what a modern receiver like the R30 would offer me over my old Yupi 7100?
I don't own either receiver, but some difference that are quickly apparent from a glance at the specifications for both products:
IC-R30 features not included in the Yupiteru product: wider frequency coverage (all the way up to 3305 Mhz), is capable of decoding digital modes such as P25, DStar and NXDN, etc., more memory channels and banks, a much faster channel-scanning speed, GPS built in, microSD card slot.
Some people reported frequency drift problems with the 7100 - that seems to be well-controlled in the IC-R30, according to the initial reviews I've seen. Likewise, many people who own the 7100 have not reported such a problem.
The Yupiteru has smaller tuning step options in the LSB and USB modes. I don't know that there is any practical difference in the ability of the two receivers to hear sideband communications - but the reviews of the IC-R30 here in the forums seem very positive, and I would be surprised if the Icom product was not as good as the 7100 for sideband listening, overall.
