Received my R30 already after ordering it yesterday from HRO (Salem, NH to MA via USPS)! Loving it already, can't wait til Butel software is available. Using the CSV import from the MicroSD card to program memory but it's inefficient.

Welcome to the club ! I can't get over how cool this receiver is.

Butel's software is worth the wait .

And this will make people happier also...amazing effort by Icom

Talk about a teaser! Looks like they're using Bluetooth so no cable is needed?

I emailed Icom America yesterday with feature requests for the option to turn on the backlight
on squelch open, and DMR. They got back to me within the hour to acknowledge my request.

Great - I wish AOR added GPS and Bluetooth to the DV10 as an original feature - Icom are killing them so far.

Same could be said about Uniden. I'd love to have GPS, Bluetooth and an updated Siren app on my iPhone for remote control..

One feature I do wish my R30 had is a "Close Call" feature. I know I could get an Optoelectronics Scout and use it for Reaction Tuning over CI-V (I did that back in the day 15 years ago with my modified AOR AR-8000) but that's a kludge these days. I wonder with the dual tuners (A & B) in the R30 if Icom could add such a feature through a firmware update??

Ah! Those were the days. AR8000 and Opto Scout. A great pairing back then. Took my 8000 to the Clacton airshow on Thursday and Friday this week. It still performs like a champ!

Awesome. I do miss the 8000. I think you'd love the R30 too, performance on airbands is excellent and dual tuners help catch all the action. Airband is one of the bands available on both the A & B tuners. Both tuners can simulatenously receive as well as record.

I'm sure you're right. I would love one. Have always enjoyed the Icoms' robust build and performance. Over the years I've had 2 R71's, an R7100 (that was fabulous when partnered with the Deltacomm interface and software - what a performer!) and now the R8500. I just wish I could justify the R30!

I had that combo too. It created a lot of conversation among scanner enthusiast at the Mira Mar air shows. the thought it was neat that you could listen to a near field radio transmission instantaneously. To bad my display on the AR8000 quit working a few years later.

Just thought I'd relay this in case it happens to someone else.

Was using my ic-r30 yesterday and when I tried to turn it off the "power off" message appeared and the whole receiver "froze", became totally unresponsive and refused to shut down.
Only succeeded in shutting it down by removing the battery
Put the battery back, repeated the above and the same thing happened. Only way to shut the receiver down was by removing the battery.

Tried doing a partial reset after putting the battery back in. Got to the final message asking me if I really wanted to proceed, said "yes" and nothing happened and the receiver froze again and became totally unresponsive.

Removed and replaced the battery and tried a full reset, same thing, the receiver froze at the same point in the procedure.

Started to become really concerned I was going to have to send it back to Icom to fix this problem.

Then remembered a few hours before I'd taken out and returned the SD card. Did this while when the receiver was off.
Removed and returned the card again and turned the receiver back on by reconnecting the battery.
This time the receiver returned to its normal state and everything was back to normal.
I'm thinking there was some connection problem with the SD card that removing it then returning it fixed.

Good to know, good troubleshooting and glad that everything's ok. Sounds like it wasn't fully inserted.

Scary for sure but I do appreciate you sharing that with us. I own an AOR DV-1 and find that the few screwy things that do occur can be attributed to the SD card.

Which is weird because it seems to clicks in place when you insert it.

I know. Those spring loaded MicroSD card slots can be picky. I always insert to click, eject then reinsert to click as a habit to confirm full insertion & mounting. Kind of OCD lol.

Hi all,

Could I just a quick question? I just dug out my Yupi 7100 as (living close to Norwich Airport) listened to a bit of air traffic from Norwich. Also, scanned some SW bands. It's kind of re-ignited my interest in ham/wide-band (not sure what to call it)
So I soon found myself googling to see what newer models are available and came across the R30. Would someone be kind enough to let me know what a modern receiver like the R30 would offer me over my old Yupi 7100? :)

I don't own either receiver, but some difference that are quickly apparent from a glance at the specifications for both products:

IC-R30 features not included in the Yupiteru product: wider frequency coverage (all the way up to 3305 Mhz), is capable of decoding digital modes such as P25, DStar and NXDN, etc., more memory channels and banks, a much faster channel-scanning speed, GPS built in, microSD card slot.

Some people reported frequency drift problems with the 7100 - that seems to be well-controlled in the IC-R30, according to the initial reviews I've seen. Likewise, many people who own the 7100 have not reported such a problem.

The Yupiteru has smaller tuning step options in the LSB and USB modes. I don't know that there is any practical difference in the ability of the two receivers to hear sideband communications - but the reviews of the IC-R30 here in the forums seem very positive, and I would be surprised if the Icom product was not as good as the 7100 for sideband listening, overall.
